Anyone recognize M1 carbine barrel channel markings?

Looks like a commercial stock to me. There have been so many US & foreign , commercial & military replacement M1 stocks on the market over the years. US Govt contract stocks are marked.

Lots of folks took the new stocks off commercial Iver Johnson , Universal and Plainfield carbines and replaced them with USGI stocks for a more authentic look. Plainfield carbines were NOT USGI spec and needed fitting.

Then it undoubtedly is a repro / commercial stock. Note I do not say fake because it has no fake markings and is clearly stamped R for repro in the barrel channel.

High walls are correct for early carbines. Why your stock also has a late selector cutout is anyone's guess.

Anyway it is a nice looking stock for $50. You didn't get ripped off and most people who see it won't know the difference.

Walnut stocks were placed in raw linseed oil for a period of time, then allowed to dry. Birch stocks were treated with a dark stain, then placed in raw linseed oil for a period of time and allowed to dry.
The one and only finish approved for use on the wood of the Caliber .30 Carbine was raw linseed oil.

Doesn't look like a USGI linseed oil finish either.

Iver Johnson , Universal and Plainfield did indeed make transferrable select-fire M2 carbines.

My question is , did you say "yes to the opening for the trigger group being larger than USGI?
If that is what you meant .... I'm leaning towards Universal as the maker.

Yes, I have a USGI stock (that the carbine came with), and the trigger group opening is virtually identical in fit.

I am using this (questioned) stock because it is so nice, and the USGI stock is stored. I shoot this carbine. (1-43 Inland with bayonet lug, round bolt, later safety...the usual upgrades)

I bought an after-market perforated steel upper handguard, JB Welded a Picatinny to it, and have a red dot mounted on that. The Picatinny has a tunnel allowing the use of the iron sights as well.

I just saw this. It appears as though you have, as someone deduced correctly, that you have an Iver Johnson commercial stock with an M-2 cut. Most GI M-2 stocks, except the very early M-2 version, are Pot Belly. The Iver Johnson ones were not. Also ALL GI stocks are marked differently than this one.

I studied all the informative sites when I first bought my M1 roughly 7 years ago. I suspected this is a civilian market stock but with the variations that occasionally occur, I was looking for confirmation that I can trust.....which I have thanks to everyone who helped. Thank you all.
