As others have mentioned, this is nothing new. The dealer has to fill out a multi-purchase form if two or more handgun purchases are made at that dealer within 5 business days. A copy is sent to the ATF and a copy is sent to the local CLEO.

Another useless federal law that went into effect in the seventies. As the reference government form indicates, it has been revised a few times. Especially the part referencing gun shows. Before 1986, a delivery of a modern firearm could only occur at the address listed on the FFL selling the gun.

I buy handguns for specific reasons, one at at time. I've never seen this sort of thing but I've heard that it's an old law.

Obama did talk about such a law for "assault weapons" when the "Fast and Furious" project came to light. Probably what he wanted to do was to propose such a "new regulation" once F&F reached its normal conclusion. He would talk about "assault weapons being sent to mexico, killling mexican kids, and so on". Then he would propose this crap as a "solution".

Being a simple minded "Community Organizer" who got caught breaking the law he went ahead and floated the proposal, which just pissed people off even more.

When you buy multiple handguns in either a single day or within a 5 day period, ATF requires the dealer to fill out a multiple handgun purchase form. It's been awhile, but if I remember right a copy of this form is faxed to ATF.
This. When I replaced a bunch of stolen firearms and I waited to pick up several of them at one time from the FFL, I leaned about this law.

I have only been in single purchase situations, so I didn't know if the extra paperwork kind of canceled out the extra profit made by the dealer.
    ...and they have a plan...

It's one extra form to fill out and send. It's not a big deal. I've sent in dozens of them and never once got a call back from the National Tracing Center. Except when I forgot to fill in something such as a SN, etc.

The guys who did my paperwork weren't too thrilled about it. At all.
