S&W M&P Front Sight drifting left
S&W M&P 9mm full size.
After 500 rounds my sight seemed a little off to the left side of the slide, still shot ok. Thought maybe I just never noticed that is how it came from the factory. But after 600 rounds down the pipe, it is now VERY left on the slide.
(See picture)
It still seems tight in the grove. I have emailed S&W and they want me to send it in. I would rather not be without it, as it is my only EDC sidearm. Any suggestions? Sould I take it to a local smith? Send it in? or does anyone have a pusher that I can utilize locally
I have read that the sight should get looser as it moves right, not left, so I am really lost at how this could be occuring.
Thanks for any advise.
(never been dropped or any other obvious cause)It's called "WORK" for a reason, they wouldn't pay you for it if it was fun.

Re: S&W M&P Front Sight drifting left
Brass punch, small hammer, and control tapping will push the sight back to center.
I'd do that(if not comfortable, take it to the shop you bought it from. I'm sure they'll fix that up in no time, and likely for free), then shoot some more again.
If ront sight starts to drift again, I would then suspect possible issue with either front sight was either cut oversize, or sight cut under size. Or perhaps both. They you can consider if you want to send it in...Audemus jura nostra defendere

Re: S&W M&P Front Sight drifting left
This issue pops up in certain runs of M&Ps. My wife had a front sight walk out on her compact last year. It's rare but happens. You could replace the sight with one that has a bigger base, or use S&Ws excellent warranty service and let them fix it up. Our experience with them had her weapon back within 12days.

Two or three more shots and it may have put an idiot mark on your forehead. Lucky you caught it before it came all the way off.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Re: S&W M&P Front Sight drifting left
Between my dad and I we have 5 M&P Pro's. We had sight drifting with 3 of them. Easy way to fix it is to knock front sight out, then center punch the frame with a very small punch, then tap front sight back in. This will keep sight in place from then on.

Re: S&W M&P Front Sight drifting left
If its under warranty send it back.......
Punching the slide will probably work but I usually prefer to modify the cheaper part. Carefully tap out the sight then slightly peen the dovetail's wedge (on the thinnest part by the edges) with a steel punch where it can't be seen. Don't pound on it, just some moderate/light taps to expand it a little and rough up the edges. That should fix it.Last edited by Delkal; January 24th, 2013 at 12:31 AM.

Re: S&W M&P Front Sight drifting left
Thanks guys, I think I will shop around for the night sights, and if the $$ is not there I will send it to S&W with a nice letter and hope for a free (and soon to be rare) hi-cap mag to come with it in the return package.
Do I send the entire firearm to them or just the slide?
Thank you for all of your ideas and replies! It's called "WORK" for a reason, they wouldn't pay you for it if it was fun.
