Looking for a good range in the West York area..

There's also the West York Sporting Goods off of Market Street, near the Hess station and Giant Eagle. I've been there once and apart from smelling like cigarette smoke it was a good experience. They say they're open noon to 8 or 9pm.

That place is a little scary. The staff, the patrons...you just don't feel safe there. The owner is a loose cannon too, I've watched him blow up in front of a full shop. Then, there was the kid who blew his brains out last year in their range.

Also, after a few trips there, you've paid for a year-long membership anywhere else that you can use a lot more, and probably be a lot safer. I definitely prefer private or membership-based ranges to public ones like stores and the State Game Lands.


Dover Fish and Game is a relatively quiet but good-enough pistol and rifle range. $20 a year too.

There is also East Berlin Fish and Game that's not too far from West York, just hit Route 234 to the end of Davidsburg Road.

Indoor archery is a new addition. If anything is bad and maybe it's not bad at all really is absolutely, positively NO GUEST to be shooting. Cameras strictly enforced, pretty much honor system. Maybe that's why it's not crowded.

They have junior rates as well, for the price of tea just about everybody can afford to buy a cup. My wife rarely uses it but she joined anyway. 3 times easily puts her ahead of the game.

I agree, I've gone there a few times and just get a sketchy vibe from that place. Can honestly say that its the first range I've been to where I felt it absolutely necessary to have a carry gun on me in addition to the one I'm shooting with in the range that day. Not to mention each stall has a few holes in the partitions..
