    Default I need your opinion!

    Here is the situation.

I currently have 2 cars and bike.

    I have:
2001 Roush Mustang with goodies(which I still owe $5000 on it)
    1997 Geo Prism with Rust
    2000 Ducati 748

    My better half have:
    2002 Ford Explorer
    2007 Mazda RX-8

As you can imagin, Geo is a beater, and Mustang is my weekend worrior.
Mustang has 42000 miles on it, and in prestine condition.
    I drive "May be" a 1000miles/year anymore.

But now I got the bike, and with gas price keep going up, and getting bit too old for full body kitted Mustang, and insurance is not cheap, I drive Mustang less and less(last year, i put 750miles on it).
And Geo is getting little tired, and needing some work done(needs AC fixed, need window fixed, needs new CD player, needs timing belt changed).

    SO i've been thinking this.
    Option 1
Trade Mustang for something nice, but more practical, and cheaper to insure(I'm eyeing 06 CTS, 05 G35, and 06 300C). Keep the geo, fix it, so that I have something to beat on still(road to shooting range is dirty road), and drive in foul weather. I'll still have a toy(Ducati), and if I want to drive sports car, i can always take my GF's Mazda. This way, I get new car, and payment is similer to what I have(may be slight increase), whcih I know I can afford. But I lose Mustang

    Option 2
Keep the Mustang and fix the geo, and drive until Mustang is paid off. Then once Mustang is paid off, get rid of Geo, and buy something nice. that way, I'll still have my Mustang, but insurance is going to be cheaper, because I'll be not obrigated to buy full coverage, and be able to afford nice 2nd car.
but I have to roll in rusty Geo for another 9 months, and hope nothing else goes south

    Option 3
Keep the Mustang. Trade the Geo for something cheap, but reliable(like Nissan Sentra or Mazda 3 or similer econobox that gets 30+ mpg) small used car. Have 2 car payments and 2 full coverage for next 9 months until Mustang is paid off. This way, I keep the Mustang, but have something nicer econobox to drive.
But have 2 payments and 2 full coverage would definatly going to bite in to my shooting funds, and bike funds...

Sorry for the long post, but what you guys think?

I'd keep the 'stang even if you have to put it in storage with just fire and theft for a year or two. Cars are like guns, you will probably regret selling it after the fact...and a 2001 Roush is certain to be a collectible in a few years.

I'll give you $200 for the bike and you can put that towards putting a new timing belt in the Geo

But honestly, sell the 'stang, get your self a Mazda Miata and have a "fun" car that gets 30+ mpg...

    Keep the Mustang.
Put the bike & the the 'Stang on a grundy policy.

Beat the geo into the ground, then get another beater.

My opinion, Miatas and RX8s are like PT cruisers, they're for girls. So go with option 2, keep what you have, fix up the Geo and drive it until it dies then make a decision. If you sell that Mustang you will never get another one and will always regret it no matter how little you drive it. Once Sept. rolls around and the stang is paid off then you will have a little more money to be able to buy something more economical if you don't think the Geo will make the winter.

imho, sell the mustang. drive your better half's RX-8...

miata's might be PT Cruiser like, but RX-8s most definitely are not

the mustang will beat it off the line (though with 0-60 times of under 6 seconds, RX-8s aren't too terrible off the line), but if the road has any curves in it, the RX-8 will leave the mustang in the dust

just jaggin' the mustang fans a bit, but it actually is true. RX-8s are fast cars that stick to the road like they are on rails...extremely fun to drive. and those wankel engines are sooooo smooth.

I say option 1. But, I have always had a practical stance on life. I don't think I would even get such a nice car as a replacement. I would find something with a lower car payment and put the remaining balance (of the payment) into a Roth IRA as much as possible.

I drive my wife nuts. I run our vehicles until they die. The wife looks at new cars from time to time and I tell her when we HAVE TO get another vehicle we will. I have not had a car payment in quite a while.

And really expensive to fix...let alone finding someone who knows what the hell they're doing with one.

Let's keep in mind he has a Rousch, thing was built for a road course.

But in LRT's defence, the RX-8 has a way shorter wheelbase...hence the superior handling and will smoke the 'Stang in the twisties.

I say go with option 2. Keep that mustang! I've had 3 mustangs a '73 Mach 1,'89 LX 5.0 and '94 GT and I regret selling all of them. You will kick yourself when it's gone!!!!!!!!

    that's OK.

unlike the mustang, the RX-8 is not a ford...

...so, it won't require weekly trips to the repair shop.

(actually ford and mazda are very intertwined, so some of the RX-8 might actually be a ford. )

hehe...just funnin' with the ford guys.
