Default saiga bullet guide**update diaster story!!!!!

Hey I'm going to be attempting to install a bullet guide on my saiga 762x39 it seems easy enough but Im not mechanically inclined. Have any of you done this before? Will I really need a drill press or will a hand drill suffice?

id advise a drill press. its just more accurate. do what i did and buy one from lowes and just return it when your done. when i did mine i screwed up a little and to file down the back side so bullets would feed properly. but once i got it right it feeds and functions flawlessly.

I was in the same boat as you... I did mine with a hand drill and the tapping supplies from Dinzag. I just made sure to keep everything straight down, use oil when tapping and drilling, and back off the tap often to clean it off and continue..

You can do it with a hand drill, just have to keep it steady use some oil and have a good bit.

When it comes to tapping it, go slower. Really slower, turn it counter clockwise to clean it out or have a few spare taps.

I did mine with a hand drill but the bit wandered a bit and I had to modify my bullet guide to fit where the hole ended up. It wasn't a great scenario but not something I couldn't work around. A better starter indent might have helped.

If you use a hand drill, just make sure the hole ends up where you want it. You might even want to fix the bullet guide in somehow and then drill using the guide as your template.

Well today I came to grips with why Im not a gunsmith but rather a security agent. Well I drilled the hole successfully with a hand drill got it straight was pleased. Started tapping it and it worked nice!! Put the hardware in tightened it down it wasn't tapped enough no biggie just thread it down a few more turns. Twist , twist, snap tap snap in the trunion flush. Major fail!!
