Default I think my sig556 is squib proof?

    OK..... Here is my theory...

The sig556 as well as many other rifles are piston or direct gas operated. The gas port in the barrel is near or close to the end. So if a squib round were to be fired in a rifle like this, would it not cause the gun to fail to eject and chamber a new round?

This would be a first indication of a problem and reason to explore a blocked barrel.

    Therefore, a squib proof gun.

That's my theory. Can anyone else substantiate that or disprove it?

You're theory is correct as long as the bullet gets stuck behind the gas port. If it stuck past the port, near the end of the barrel, it may still chamber a new round. I've never seen a sqiub that didn't give off a nice plume of smoke, so that's a good indicator, as well.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

How would this be any different then on a DI rifle? If the bullet gets stuck behind the gas port it wont cycle on a DI gun either. The only benefit I would care about to make me go gas over DI is if I was making a pistol and didnt want a buffer tube.

Edit , sorry reread your post, I thought you were saying it would only happen on gas guns.

Ive only ever encountered a Squib once. It was on an AK. The bullet managed to exit the barrel but only went about 20 feet. It was clearly visible to the other guy with me. I could tell by the sound that something wasnt right.
The gun did not fully load the next round, but did eject the squib casing.

I had a squib in my sks years ago, It did not cycle the action and when I opend it powder dumped all over the place. To me if it cycles the action it should have had enuff powder to leave the barrel (excluding blow back guns)

Yes, or you could fail to realize what happened, perform immediate action and blow the gun up!
