Default How can someone know i own a gun.

Sorry if this is a repeat discussion. I own a handgun and wanted to know how someone else could find that out. I do not have a licence to carry permit. It was bought legally from Gander Mountain. Would any kind of background check reveal this information. I don't carry it unless I am going to the shooting range. If I was ever stopped by the police can they tell if I own a gun.

    Thanks for any info.

Typically they can't unless you live in NY where they publish that sort of info (see other threads) As for the police they have no way of knowing unless you tell them. Don't get pulled over.

I have heard 911 Dispatchers pro-actively look up names in the RoS while officers were enroute to a scene. It's rare, but it does happen.

I live in PA which does not require a permit to own a gun, just a permit to carry it concealed. what is an RoS and if i dont have any kind of permit how would a police officer find out if i owned one.

I have heard that before but I think it only came back if they had a LTCF

RoS = Record of Sale database which the PSP are illegally keeping for sales of firearms (the UFA definition of firearms) in PA.

Generally the police wouldn't know if you have one or not. The instances that I heard them looking it up proactively were rare and extreme.

RoS: record of sale. Remember all that paperwork you filled out for Gander Mountain to transfer ownership to you? RoS....

being that you're asking these questions id like to inform you that PA is not a duty to inform state, oh wait you dont have a LTCF...so why is this question being asked?

Nope, the one time I heard it come back as a positive, they knew the Make/Model/Serial# before the officer read it off.

Thanks for all the info. I'm a relative newbie gun owner so i was just curious on PA privacy laws regarding ownership. Also if a company was doing a background check on me for employment would this show up.

    Thanks again.
