Colt SAA barrel question
I bought a Colt SAA barrel in 45 cal. I want to put it on my 1st Gen Colt, but not sure if this barrel is 2d or 3d gen ??? Have been told 1st and 2d barrel thread are 20 threads per inch, and 3d gen 24 per inch. If I was a LITTLE bit smarter I might figure that thread difference. I measured the thread area by length and it is 11/16" The thread area only appears be 3/8". I count
10 threads. Based on this half ass information (and pics) can anyone determine if this barrel is 2d gen. ????? It has the correct Hartford address top of barrel. Camera not good for close ups. Thanks

Re: Colt SAA barrel question
If you have 10 threads in 3/8" then I would think that works out to 24TPI. (9/(3/8))= 24

Re: Colt SAA barrel question
I found out that a 10 thread SAA barrel will fit a first or second generation gun.

Re: Colt SAA barrel question
You might want to tread carefully, value wise, prior to replacing a barrel on a first generation gun, considering what they can go for. You could probly get some good insight on the Colt Forum.

Re: Colt SAA barrel question
your point is well taken. however, the original barrel was nickeled many years ago, and in the old process gunsmiths tend to over buff parts. In this case the colt address was buffed off. Needless to say value went down....
So, replacing barrel with a 2d gen. barrel was done......
