    Default Colt .38 Super FINALLY

I was finally able to find an unfired blued Colt M1911, series 80 in .38 Super Government length (5 inch barrel). I know it's a series but what the heck!!

This "Super" came with the factory blue box, correct to the gun, and all paperwork. I was also able to get two 1,000 round cases of Winchester Silvertips at the price he paid in the late '70s.

May have overpaid for the Colt but figured I made it up on what I saved on the ammo and taxes.

I have $1605 invested in the pistol and ammunition.

I would like an approximate birth/manufacture date: serial number is 2816xxx

Did I overpay? If so how badly??

At the going rate of ammo these days you did not overpay. Enjoy your new blaster.

According to Blue Book the pistol is worth $900 plus a 10% premium for NIB or $990 total. It was most likely made sometime between 1991 and 1997. The ammo has to be worth around $800 more or less so it looks like you did well. Enjoy the new pistol.

judging by today's price of .38 super ammo, if you got 2000 rounds for $1600, you can call it getting a free 1911 with the deal, and a few rounds for free, as well.

Thought I had overpaid for the pistol as I paid $800 plus $5.00 transfer fee; I figured the pistol was worth around $750.

The ammo was bought in the late 70s and his receipt on the ammo showed $399 plus tax per 1000 round case he had two cases so I paid $800 for the ammo.

Paid no taxes on either purchase.

Good gun, good price. Now get busy and solve her problem of never having experienced her god given purpose. The only down side is now the 1911 collection requires a complete duplicate of all available models in .38 Super as well as .45 acp.

Awesome find, so are you going to shoot it? I was always curious about the .38 Super and always wanted to reload for it but I don't think I've come across anything chambered for that round or seen any brass available for it.

If you're happy with the gun, then it was worth the price and you didn't over pay.

And if you aren't happy, you can give it to me.

    And yes, pics are required.
