NY approves sweeping gun control package, owners worry about new rules

New York on Tuesday became the first state to approve a comprehensive set of gun control laws in response to last month’s mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school, amid concerns among gun owners that the spate of changes to local and state gun laws could make them targets of overzealous politicians and prosecutors.

The New York Assembly gave final approval to the bill late Tuesday afternoon -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed it within minutes.

New York’s new laws will expand the state's ban on assault weapons and include new measures to keep guns away from mentally disturbed individuals. Under the new law, ammunition magazines would also be restricted to seven bullets, from the current 10 -- owners caught with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge. The law also prohibits Internet sales of assault weapons and in another provision, a therapist who thinks a mental health patient is making a credible threat to use a gun illegally would be required to report the incident to the state.

How more states will have to fall before action is taken? Who will be next?

Heros like Paul Revere would be killed in todays day and age.

Honestly, I give it about two weeks before Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, New Jersey, and California follow suit.

As discussed in other threads, the people of NYC voted for what the good guys got.

I gladly welcome our good New Yorkers to help displace some of the trash in our blue state. It's just a shame because the northern part of that state would be an incredible place to live.

Picking up and moving is not always as easy as it sounds.

As screwed up as the NY government has been over the years, you were still allowed to hunt with a semi-auto rifle, LOL

I didn't hear all of the report, but I thought Fox News also mentioned the Governor signing some sort of gun registration program.......Wait and see!!

Hopefully, the good productive population of New York exits the state leaving Cuomo, Bloomberg & Company behind with all the lazy, unproductive, welfare-leeching thuggish criminal trash who could care less about any of their stupid new gun laws, or any other laws for that matter!

I thought that mental health professionals were already required to report threats to public safety.

I would like to see ALL manufacturers of firearms, magazines, ammunition, etc. tell ANY law enforcement agency in NY to fuck off - much like Barret did to Kommiefornia over the 50cal ban.
