Default Statistics on firearms lost by federal government...

My GoogleFu is strong, however, I have been unable to uncover any statistics for firearms that go missing from US Government armories. I was wondering is anyone knew where these numbers can be found. I'm particularly interested in how many small arms go missing from the stores of both federal law enforcement and the military. Again, I have looked high and low...tried a wide variety of searches and simply cannot find anything. Thanks in advance.

i can speak at least for the marines and i can say its not many. if a weapon goes missing its the battalion commanders ass. so you better believe that he is gonna have every swinging dick looking for that thing and it dont matter where it was lost, back in the rear or over on the front lines.

there were 2 instances in 10 years where i know of 2 weapons that went missing.
    1) was an M9 pistol over in iraq where we went on a patrol and it was in some ones drop holster and it fell out and the guy didnt have a lanyard on it. when the patrol got back to the FOB and the marine realized it was gone, 3 entire companies were sent out to look for the thing. it was never found, some iraqi kid picked it up im sure. the marine was reduced in rank and the platoon commander was fired. the company commander had his ass handed to him from the battalion commander, and the battalion commander got the same ass chewing from the regimental commander.

the 2nd time was in lejeune and some POG lost his rifle off a boat while doing amphibious training. i was with recon at the time and myself and my team spent a good 3 days diving and doing underwater grid searches for and never found it. it was lost in the bay and the bottom was about 2' of just clay and mud. if you even touched the bottom you would stir everything up and have to wait several minutes for it all to settle again. we pretty much searched blindly.

I read a story a couple years ago that in the course of 5 years or so, federal government agents from TLA's lost around 1500 weapons. Those ranging from pistols, rifles and shotguns.
