Gun debate lights up phone lines in congressional offices
Mass shootings, ammunition shortages and fear that government might snatch away gun rights have driven new voices to the gun control debate, and congressional offices are hearing from them.
Sen. Bob Casey‘s office has received more than 500 calls on the issue since mid-December, with about 60 percent in favor of reforming gun laws and 40 percent against.
Most of the 200 calls to the office of Rep. Mike Doyle, a Forest Hills Democrat, were “very heavily in favor of doing something.”
In one Arizona House district, calls were said to be running 9-to-1 against gun control measures.
Casey, D-Scranton, a longtime supporter of gun rights who got high marks from the National Rifle Association, softened his stance in the days after a gunman killed 20 first-graders and six adults Dec. 14 in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
The senator “believes a comprehensive solution is needed, including common-sense steps like the reinstatement of a ban on military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines,” said his spokesman, John Rizzo.
Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Butler, received a “considerable number of calls,” most of them from constituents asking him to defend their Second Amendment right to bear arms, spokeswoman Julia Thornton said.
Kelly “believes that any effort to curb the type of senseless violence we‘ve seen in recent shooting massacres should be a measured and holistic approach, not merely a singular focus on gun policies,” Thornton said.

If this is true, we need to get on the phones more.
I never trust the media however, or dems like Casey and any claims they might make. The USA is now a banana republic. Only without the bananas....or the Republic.

The low numbers don't surprise me one bit. Go to any gun forum and look at any of the political action threads. Low responses and views. The FSA lives among us. They want there rights but want other people to do the fighting. Most are content with the one email they sent.."I did my part". It's a shame really. I've said it before, if any of these bills pass, it's because we all failed. We failed to come together on one of the most grotesque violations of our basic rights. No one to blame but us.

Exactly! There are a lot of hot aired chest pounders but they are cowards when it comes to making it count. These are the guys who get hot headed the first time someone disagrees with them. In person they huff it away from the situation and behind a keyboard they argue with insults.
Stay vigilant and keep calling and writing. Don't assume your pro-gun reps won't compromise either. My rep T. Platts, has really let me down on several issues like the Patriot act and the "fiscal cliff" vote. I would not be shocked if he burned us on an AWB. Write them all and do it on behalf of each family member in your house if need be."The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

Leave your average Fudd who will never call in defense of our rights out of it for a second.
There is NO WAY your average suburban soccer mom who might be against scary black rifles to "help keep our kids safe" has any inclination to pick up a phone and call about it.

How can you tell a politician is lying? His lips are moving. In order to justify the stance they're taking on the " people who have guns control ", they're gonna juggle and lie about the numbers, just like the mass media ( f*#k you Piers Fienstein ). Nothing like using one tragedy to propagate a controlled response.
