I picked this up earlier today from Bob's Gun Shop. I've wanted one for a while now and when HK announced they were discontinuing the P7M8, I thought I should get one before the prices skyrocket.

from HK's webpage about the P7M8...

    P7M8
Limited Availability – No Longer in Production

The extremely compact HK P7M8 can be drawn, cocked, and fired accurately, faster than any other pistol. With an overall length and width close to many .380 pocket pistols, the full-power 9mm P7M8 has a full-length four-inch barrel enclosed in its low profile steel slide.

The unique HK cocking lever allows the P7M8 to be carried safely with a round in the chamber, yet it is ready to fire by the intentional squeezing of the fingers around the grip. Releasing the cocking lever decocks the P7M8 immediately and renders it completely safe.

The P7M8 gas system retards the movement of the recoiling slide during firing and eliminates the need for a conventional locking mechanism or heavy slide. The low profile slide contributes to the balanced center of gravity and compact size of the P7M8.

Made of high-grade steel, the low profile slide keeps the recoiling mass as small as possible. Combined with the optimal grip angle of 110°, the result is a compact, accurate, and low recoil pistol well suited to civilian and law enforcement users.

    Features:
    • Polygonal rifling for increased barrel life
    • Fluted chamber aids in extraction
    • All steel construction
    • Extractor also doubles as a loaded chamber indicator
    • Fixed barrel ensures accuracy
    • Trigger guard heatshield
    • Ambidextrous magazine release
    • Cocking lever control means complete ambidextrous function
    • Single stack magazine allows for a small grip circumference
    • Blued finish

    Specifications:
    • Caliber: 9mm
    • Capacity: 8
    • Length: 6.73"
    • Width: 1.14"
    • Height: 5.10"
    • Sight Radius: 5.83
    • Barrel Length: 4.13"
    • Weight: 1.72lb

Dumb question, is the front strap on that a grip safety or something. I've never seen a pistol with a grip quite like that.

It must be depressed for the gun to fire. Similar to a 1911 or an XD only on the front.

Gotcha. That's what I thought it was but I'd never seen one before. Thanks.

nickname for these guns is the "squeezecocker".
the mech makes the gun ready fro firing when the grip is grabbed in a ready to fire condition, and the striker is extended visually thru the rear of the slide.
gun is decocked simply by loosening the grip and allowing the gun to decock.

thats a nice pistol, and in good shape.

fantastic guns, but the action was too different for me to buy, and carry for CCW.

plus I'm no fan of the 9mm, my calibers for carry start with a .4:-)

HK once made the P7M10, which was .40 cal, but they were only made between 1991 and 1994 (passage of the crime bill). I'm unable to locate any for sale locally or on GunBroker.com, new or used.

HK made a mere 6 P7's in .45 ACP, called the P7M7, which would be supersexy. Shame on HK for not pushing the P7M7 into mass production. All six remain in the hands of HK today, and it doesn't look like they'll ever make production now that the P7 has reached the end of it's life.

I'm looking for a nice P7M8 holster now. I'm considering a custom from Del Fatti. Any other good ones? Galco maybe?

Something similar to this one in black:

Great Pics of a great gun Doug! I love P7's and have 3 of them currently.
There was a P7M10 at the Valley Forge Gun Show for the low low price of $ 2500! The gun looked kinda beat up too.
As far as leather, Del Fatti makes awesome stuff, but you'll have to wait like 18 months to get one
My favorite holster maker, Gary Broomeland, just got a P7M8 dummy gun in for me and will be making the first ever Max Con V for a P7 shortly. If you ordered now his wait is only like 12 weeks

If your looking for some quick P7 leather, I suggest looking around for a Milt Sparks VM2 or something from Fist.
