Restoring a DeWat question
Hi all, i was looking for some advice on having a deactivated mg restored to original condition.
I have the chance to buy an old french Chauchat, but the barrel is welded. I can not figure out what the laws are regarding a ReWat.
I've read that reactivating it constitutes "manufacturing" a machine gun. But i know people have had this done, so how does one go about doing this legally?
Any help i could get would rock, thanks everyone.

Re: Restoring a DeWat question
You are about 27 years too late on asking this question. No further manafacture of machine guns for private owernship since 1986. End of story. Just to give yourself a good kick in the ass, if the firearm you are talking about was regestered before 1986 it would be worth over 50k. Now it's just a wall hanger.

Re: Restoring a DeWat question
Yes you can reactivate a true papered DEWAT weapon.
Either file a Form1 and pay your $200 tax and do the work yourself. Or have a Title 2 manufacture file a Form2, complete the work and then transfer to you on a Form4 .
The weapon will be completely transferable and hold its C&R status.HGW, llc ~ Title 1 & NFA sales/manufacturing ~ Transfers - Title 1 $20 - NFA $50

Re: Restoring a DeWat question
Chauchat prices for a C&R is somewhere around $6,000 tops. SGN just had a great article on it couple issues back. And yes I agree, IT WAS ANOTHER PIECE OF FRENCH SHIT!!! Numerous doughboys got killed because of that damn thing. I would have just gave it to the Germans. Would have done more good.

Re: Restoring a DeWat question
I thought all dewats had to be papered as MGs prior to 1986 in order for a rewat to be legal after 1986. Is this correct?
