challenging a firearm transfer denial

So i recently went to purchase a revolver to target practice with and small game, i was denied and was told to challenge it, well on my juvenile record i had charges from a knife i brought to school once for self defense which should all be in my statement on record. How do i look up documents on my arrest record and would that permanently stop me from owning a firearm?
