    Default SKS-you gotta love em

I had my sks to the range today and it worked flawlessly. I got home and realized that I never put the piston return spring back in after the last time I had it disassembled, and it still worked! Try taking a major/large spring out of any other firearm and see how it functions. A couple of years ago, I had a beat up sks (that also worked flawlessly) but an aftermarket firing pin spring got jammed up inside the bolt and was causing slam fires. I took the gun apart at the range, used the punch from the cleaning kit and the receiver/ dust cover as a hammer to disassemble the bolt and free the firing pin. I removed the broken bits of spring and continued to fire flawlessy. Try using part of an AR15 as a hammer and then putting it back on the gun with no issues and barely and noticable damage. The simplicity of the design and the sheer amount of steel that went into these rifles is incredible. I've owned AKs and ARs, but I prefer the SKS.

If and when this whole thing passes over, I would love to get an AK.

I have my buddy's preban I Norinco spiker on loan for the weekend. Going to take it out tomorrow, I'm excited.

He got it in 91' for $99 along with 1500 rounds of yellow box wolf for $99. Anyone got a time machine?

I sold a few firearms a few years back when I was out of work.
The only regret was the Yugo SKS.

I just love wood and steel rifles and it was a nice one, with all but one matching number parts.
I figured I could easily replace it one day, and while true, I had a "kinship" with that rifle resulting from the fact that I brought it home CAKED in Cosmoline.

After removing Cosmoline from a rifle, you are like blood brothers! LOL!
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

+100 on the SKS, real under-valued rifle.

I sprung for a ProMag 20rd duckbill from an LGS just to try to extend the fun beyond 10rds. Not trying to make it tacticool, just that a 10rd premature ejection needed attention.

I sold a Norinco paratrooper years ago that hit 100 yard bullseyes with open sights. Biggest regret of my life. No markings were ground off it either.

Yep, that sums it up for me too. I wish I had never sold it.

    Now I have a Yugo 59/66.

You have to love any rifle that carries it's own cleaning rod, cleaning kit, bayonet, and (in the case of the Yugo) grenade launcher.

It's now my 8yr olds favorite rifle as well. Even more than the AK.

Clean it good and make sure the firing pin is free. I had to strip one for a guy at the range several weeks ago, just got it two weeks prior. It had brass stuck in the firing pin. Could have gotten real ugly real fast.
