My first AR pistol was an active participant in the only time I ever shot down the overhead wire at an indoor range. Cost me $50 and a lengthy sneer from Jay Bell standing to the side. Immediately after that, I form-1'ed that traitorous scattergun into an SBR.
I didn't say serious or competitive in my previous statement but it would not be uncommon for one to shoot one at 100-200 yards either especially with a brace. Don't know the members intentions as stated in my comments, I was just pointing out the cons to putting the rear sight forward.

Inherent accuracy of the gun isn't the same as the accuracy of the shooter. Slap an AR pistol in a vice and there won't be much difference from a 16" barreled gun.

I thought that AR's with less than 7 inches of barrel forward of the gas port suffer severe loss of power and therefore lose accuracy at distance.
    Am I wrong on that?

Oh well - it was a STEAL at $75, so I'm not complaining.

If you're on a budget, I can tell you that I looked at all sorts of hand guards over the course of a week and it's really hard to beat these Aero Precision Blem prices.
You can find Chinese made stuff for less, but for just a little more, you get QUALITY.

Take a look. The prices shown are the normal Blem sale prices.

Accuracy i.e. spread of a bullet, probably not. But velocity loss and significantly more bullet drop and windage push at longer distances definitely yes.

Of if you're a blind bastard like me.

all my ARs have rear BUIS sight set farther out. I fact it's at the exact distance the rear sight on a pistol is when pressed out. I can see it there. If you put the rear BUIS behind the optic as far back as possible, it literally disappears for me.

And as you said, if I'm on the irons, I'm not stretching out to 100yds.
