But the AR-556 comes with a 1:8 CHF barrel, which alone should account for the difference in cost. It also has the Ruger rollmark that could make an easier sale when the time comes.

OP, post-Orlando, $600 is a great price for it.

The FN barreled rifle kits from PSA are a very good value. Available in carbine and mid. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy the upper, BCG/CH, and the LPK separately. You have to move on them when they become available because their products go in and out of stock quickly. Add a stripped lower and you have a rifle with a CHF chrome lined barrel for under $600.
