How does this work? The kit can be purchased and shipped direct to the buyer without an FFL? Then the lower has to be transferred thru and FFL, and if assembled with the kit, the lower will always be a pistol?

What is the ideal barrel length for a 5.56 pistol? Is 7.5" best, or a bit longer?

Velocity falls off fast with the 5.56 as you start dropping barrel length. So it depends on the end goal, but realistically I wont go under 10" if you're talking anything other than a range toy. Others will disagree with that, but you're talking about a round that does its damage through its speed, and when that's gone...well, you know. And no, I still dont want to get shot by a 5.56 from any length barrel

Somewhat less so with 300BO due to heavier rounds, but true of any caliber ultimately.

Kit can be shipped to your home. No FFL - it's just parts.

A lower must be shipped to an FFL and transferred to you.
(unless you use an 80% lower, OR purchase a virgin stripped lower FTF - no FFL required for that - no FFL required to buy/sell a lower if it's been built either, but for the purpose of building a PISTOL, the lower needs to be a virgin lower - never built into a pistol or a rifle)

If built as a RIFLE first, it must always remain a rifle (unless you SBR it with tax stamp)
If built as a PISTOL first, it can later be transformed into a rifle, it can further be transformed back to a pistol.

    Thank you.

    Agree with above.
Personal choice is 7.5 only because I want it to be as compact as possible and because it is unlikely to be hitting targets more than 50 yards away - more likely under 50 FEET, so I'm less concerned with the whole (legitimate) velocity concerns.

Also, as I understand it, if you want to have a more effective 7.5" AR and you don't want to use the expensive 300 Blk ammo, the 7.62x39 is much less affected by the short barrel length.

My solution is to own BOTH.
