I remember when you could only buy gas every other day. Wasn't it plates ending in an odd number one day and ending in an even number the next day?
I seem to recall people switching plates so they could buy gas. Don't know what gas cost back then, I was still riding on the center arm rest in the back seat.

I think it around .60 cents and they pumped and cleaned your windshield.

And it was a big deal 'cause pumps couldn't set price after 99.9 cents. When I worked on my uncle's farm, Diesel was .19/gal and gas was .28/gal (off road)
