two competing locking systems for accessories.
one looks like your rifle is covered in sperms, the other slits.
    i'm an m-lok fan.

its important aesthetics wise and important when you buy stuff to stick onto the rifle, otherwise it's not.

Edit: well, more like lollipops or keyholes or even little fat thermometers.
when your tired of arguing calibers, you can argue the style of hole you bolt crap to.

Should be a good low end gun. If you have any issues. It's most likely gonna be a gas port or gas block issue.

Keymod is ugly (looks like heavy duty shelving slots)
    M-Lok isn't ugly

Keymod is older design. Used to be harder to find M-lok accessories but it seems pretty common now.
Fanatics will probably be able to give a better analysis.

So, are there specific fasteners for each or standard fastener works on either?

specific enough that they are not cross compatible.
don't worry, it's still got a piccy rail and you can get add on rails for either system if i recall.

what i don't like are those fore ends that have 4 or eight picatinny rails, rails all around, rails to hold your rails. seems like it'd be uncomfortable.
