quick access to guns in your home
just wondering how other guys here keep their weapons stored safely while still being able to get to them in a hurry if someone should try to break in at 8 at night while you're watching tv in the family room.I have two quick access safes, one under the bed and the other under the couch in the room we spend the most time in.Just wondering what others do? Thanks

Re: quick access to guns in your home
Easy, I grab the one in my holster on my hip. The safest/most accessible place for my gun to be is on me.

Re: quick access to guns in your home
The rule in our house for gun storage is:
If its just me and my wife the gun can either be in my holster (on my hip) or within arms reach or in the safe.
If we have anyone besides us in the house the gun is either on the hip or in the safe.
It's rare that we are more that a few paces from protection.

.40-cal. on nightstand next to bed upstairs, 9mm on end table next to sofa in living room. No kids, only dogs.

Re: quick access to guns in your home
When sleeping, the 9mm is on the nightstand. The AK is in the closet, and the AR and other handguns are under the bed (locked during the day, unlocked at night. At any other time I have something on me or within arm's reach.
No kids makes it a lot easier. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, and the only thing that stops a good guy with a gun is the government.

Re: quick access to guns in your home
We just have a dog, no kids yet; I keep my Sig on my hip/within arms reach if we are on the first floor, on the second floor I have a shotgun mounted inside a closet up above the door where it is out of sight but is quickly accessible.
will that extra 15% matter? not as much as being able to put one in their face. ~Edg

On my hip or within a short reach at all times, indoors or out. I don't leave my bedroom without a weapon on my person somewhere. I certainly don't leave my house without one.

Re: quick access to guns in your home
thanks for the responses,we recently had a burglary in the middle of the day where a bad guy just kicked in the screen door, makes sense to have the gun on your hip in that situation, even locked in a safe nearby isn't going to be of any help
