Default Sight Picture, How do YOU aim??

I have always been taught Image 1 for iron rifle sights, but my Glock and my Sig Sauer pistol seem to hit when aiming like Image #3.... Image 2 (half n half/ center mass) has me low.

    So how do YOU aim?

From Sigs website: "All SigSauer production duty/combat pistols are set up to use a "combat" sight picture. This is where the front sight completely covers the bulls eye of the target. Using a six o'clock ("pumpkin on a post") or center mass ("half'n'half") sight picture will result in low impact. SigSauer, Inc sights in all non-sporting and non-target pistols for 2.5 inch groupings @ 15 yards."

Anyone know if this is the case for Glock? I would imagine they also use the "Combat" sight picture.

I'm a #2 guy.. I've shot quite a few handguns and have never understood how people get hits using the 6 o'clock sight picture.. Unless they have adjustable sights or something

I set mine up for #2 which is much easier to shoot tiny groups with.....UNLESS, you want to shoot tight groups at longer ranges on round black targets.....in that case I use #1. That's one of the secrets to printing nice groups with irons at longer ranges.

How I aim is for me. You need to find a way that works for you. Then stick with it.

    # 2 here at 7-15 yards and #1 at anything past 15.

I prefer #3. Where I put the front sight is where the bullet should go...

Like rahliE, I never could get used to the 6 o'clock hold, mostly because how can one consistently define "6 o'clock of your target/where you want to hit", especially with different target sizes and at varying ranges?

You need to figure out how the sights are regulated on your individual handgun. You need to shoot it off the bench at a distance (15 to 25 yards) and see where your hits are. You also need to do some precision work up close (something like a target paster at 3 yards). Get to know how your own gun is hitting with a particular type of ammunition.
