This would have been helpful in the OP.

I have always used the second method.

The third one means you have to "imagine" where the target is since you're covering up where you want to hit. (At least the way I'm looking at it)

The first one makes no sense whatsoever to me. Why would you aim at the bottom of the target to hit the middle?

I guess it also depends on distance and what is meant by "target". I'm not sure what the circle with the crosshair in the image actually represents.

I was taught to cut the target in half so #2 which appears to be the most common method. Number 1 and 3 I think are more or less adjusting for elevation since you might be hitting high or low from that distance without actually fiddling with the sights themselves.

From Sigs website: "All SigSauer production duty/combat pistols are set up to use a "combat" sight picture. This is where the front sight completely covers the bulls eye of the target. Using a six o'clock ("pumpkin on a post") or center mass ("half'n'half") sight picture will result in low impact. SigSauer, Inc sights in all non-sporting and non-target pistols for 2.5 inch groupings @ 15 yards."

Anyone know if this is the case for Glock? I would imagine they also use the "Combat" sight picture.

i think the link you gave here is broken please could you send me some other link to see about this link......

Sig seems to be #3, both my Glock 10mms seem to be #1. I set optics up for #2 I dont mess with pistol sights unless they are way off. I just shoot em the way they come for the most part.

#2 is how I was taught, and how I adjust my sights. I like to see what I'm shooting at. This doesn not apply to rifle scopes, I set them so the center of the crosshairs is on target, since the crosshairs don't block the target. If I'm shooting a non-adjustable pistol that is set a different way, I just figure out where it shoots and then aim to compensate.

For pistols, I've always done #2. I have a bit less experience on rifles, probably because they've usually had scopes.
