Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
Q'town Rich, Ridiculous is a polite understatement.
I cringed when I read the newspaper report. Can't they check the facts?
"...violence and lead pollution from spent shell casings,..." Gotta watch them shell casings, they're known for their violence. Shell casings causing lead pollution?? Really? Someone doesn't realize the work and effort by the Game Commission to clean up the range from the use of lead BULLETS.
Then there's the comment "...some shooting high power assault rifles into the air.." I'm glad to know the commentator is so well versed about rifles.
The range was in use long before these people ever came to live nearby.
One more thought, I'll be calling State Senator Chuck McIlhinney's office and let them know how important it is to operate and maintain this rifle range. And to provide them with another, perhaps more informed, view point on the issue.

Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
I used to shoot there on a regular basis before it was closed and never saw anything close to what these alarmists are saying. I remember it being a very friendly harmonious place where everyone got along shared advice and sometimes even made new friends the shooting and hunting community are not what these morons are making us out to be

Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
I remember when there used to be a bunch of guys dressed in red with red bandannas and they were shooting their guns sideways. They used to flip busses and light them on fire.
Look to the One Who is wearing what should have been your scars...

Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
The range was there long before most of these people were. I like more dog more and more every day. People suck.
Guns are dangerous, but no guns is more dangerous.

Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
I really hope that this range re-opens. I used to frequent this range often, when it was open. I never saw anybody doing anything "crazy" (like firing guns in the air or anything) I often saw the Ranger stop by the range, and make sure the rules were being enforced. I even heard that a guy got a fine at the range, because he had more than the 3 round limit loaded in his gun. If anyone hears more info on this re-opening please pass along the info!

Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
Sad news folks. I walked into the range today just to see what the story is as far as work progress. The place is a complete shambles. The last 100yards of road before the range itself has been cleared of all it's trees, there are jumbles of felled trees and piled rocks. It may be the prep work, most construction projects look like hell before they start to take shape. There are no benches, mounds of overgrown dirt 10 feet high in two places within the range lanes...which appear to have been from the holes that are now filled with water and cattails, and the only sign of any work at all are some older tractor prints. Ain't no way this mess will be a range by the June date. On the bright side I did see a family of foxes....Mom and 3 pups, one deer and some turkey feathers. I also walked way in down the trail/road that starts about 50yds from the range and winds behind the backstop. Picture perfect back there, no signs of people at all. I.E., no trash. Was a bit of it along the road to the range itself...after the gate.
Just figured out the dirt mounds! Lead abatement. One mound at the 25, one at the 50, and it just dawned on me, the backstop at 100 was gouged out. Now we sit and wait. It's been 4 years, what's another 2 or 3?

Re: Nockamixon Firing Range
Meh...join us at Paletown around the corner, guys. $15 per year, no limit of rounds in your weapon, good little bass pond and great ranges that are usually empty of people.

New article in the Inteligencer about the range:
http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/loca...nder-fire.html
The surrounding neighbors are up in arms.......Politicians who fear the people seek to disarm them.
People who fear their government's intentions refuse to be disarmed.
