Re: List of Shops Around Pittsburgh
I just used Pfogner's and I was very happy with him. I called several stores in the area looking for a specific gun and he had the best price by far. Though it is a bit of a drive. plus a website is a huge deal to me. It lets me browse without having to leave the house.

I'll give Ultimate-Outdoors in Plum a "5 Thumbs Up" archery rating. I was unaware they were a FFL, as I didn't notice any guns in the store the few times I've been there, they are very knowledgable about archery equipment and are more than willing to answer any questions and help you get set up correctly.

I have bought firearms in these three shop on your list. rating on a 1-10 scale ten being the best rating.
Big Buck Sport Shop I would rate this shop as a minus (-)9
Braverman Arms Co rating of about an 8
Markl Supply Company, Inc. rating of a 10.

Re: List of Shops Around Pittsburgh
I whole heartedly disagree with everything positive said about Brown's. I've been there a few times and each time I left with a bad experience.
I do not want to rehash the issues with him and his shop, but a common statement I've made every time my friend in Beaver Falls mentions going there for ammo or a firearm is "Fuck Brown's, I'll never set foot in that shop again."
I recommend avoiding them at all cost. I'd spend the extra gas money to go elsewhere. But that's just me, shop there at your own risk.Zone1

A very big +10 for Markl Supply. Over the last 40 odd years, I've done a lot of business up there and everybody there is a total professional. Fair prices, great service, and fantastic customer service if you have a problem with the purchase. The place is worth the trip, no matter where you come from.

I've always had good luck with markl's, good folks. Brown's has been real good to me as well. Braverman's has always been pretty good too.

Re: List of Shops Around Pittsburgh
Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, and I was wondering if you could help me out. First let me explain that I am in the market to buy a rifle. I don't know much at all about guns. I was in the Army for one enlistment, and I know the M-16 inside and out. I'm looking to purchase a rifle similar to the M-16, whatever the civilian equivalent is.
Can someone tell me what kind of rifle I should be looking for?
Also - this is a great thread. Can someone recommend a dealer in the Pittsburgh area who can sell me a rifle like the one I mentioned above?
I hear some references to online purchases and then picking them up at a local gun shop. Can someone explain to me how this works? Also - can someone highly recommend such a place for me to shop? I'm a big fan of online shopping. I never thought it would be an option for a gun purchase.
One final question - how do I go about getting licensed? Can that be handled at the gun shop where I purchase my rifle? Is there anything I can do in advance of the purchase?
Again, I apologize for the very amateurish questions, but civilian gun ownership is new territory for me.
Thanks very much for your help!
