    Default Harrisburg 23 Jan 2013 10:00 start

    Updated Monday 1/14/13 -

    START TIME 10:00 AM

There will be a rally in Harrisburg on January 23, 2013 which will occur at the Capitol building and surrounding area. This is occurring on the same day as CeaseFire PA plans to amass at the Capitol to promote their agenda of 'reasonable' gun control ( https://www.facebook.com/events/535161183175503/ ), which is nothing but unreasonable demands aimed at full control. WE NEED YOU THERE TO SHOW SUPPORT OF OUR 2A RIGHTS!!

This rally is being promoted as the Pennsylvania Responsible Citizens March.

While specifics are still being finalized at this moment, the latest updated information for the event will be posted here.

For those that can offer help in the planning and execution of this event, shoot PreserveandProtect a PM and you can be included on his discussion link.

The purpose of this march is to:

    1) Reinforce the fact that responsible and ordinary citizens own and carry firearms,

    2) Dispel the myth that gun owners are bad people,

    3) Show solidarity and organization of Pro-2A citizens in an effort to prevent hostile gun restrictions and laws.

WE ARE THE GOOD GUYS, we are the law-abiding citizens who understand the meaning and purpose of the Second Amendment, and are responsible in our efforts to abide by it. Our voices must be heard over those calling for knee-jerk reactive measures that will only punish the lawful citizens. We grieve over the sensless loss of innocent lives taken by a madman, and our focus is to not just maintain but foster our abilities to counter such evil.

Please join us in this effort, and enlist as many of like-minded friends and family as you can get.

    Some preliminary info:
    - BE PROFESSIONAL in appearance and actions.. This includes style of clothing and language on signs, ie no profanity or obscene/provocative statements.

    - The majority of us will be participating in an outdoor rally, either in place or marching on the streets surrounding the Capitol (to be determined soon). We encourage signs and banners that positively champion our cause. In addition, a small contingent will enter the Capitol as repesentatives of our cause and meet with legislators (to be determined). Note: the Capitol Police are unable to provide secure storage of long guns if entry to the building is requested; long gun carriers must remain outside unless other arrangements have been made.

    - CC, OC and long arms are part of our daily routine, and are welcomed here. However, it is necessary that any CC or OC be done using a proper holster, and long guns be slung over the shoulder and never in a 'low port' position.

    - Remember that PA is still under 'State of Emergency' rules as they pertain to the carry of firearms. From the PA UFA:

§ 6107. Prohibited conduct during emergency.

No person shall carry a firearm, rifle or shotgun upon the public streets or upon any public property during an emergency proclaimed by a State or municipal governmental executive unless that person is:

    1) Actively engaged in a defense of that person's life or property from peril or threat.
    2) Licensed to carry firearms under section 6109 (relating to licenses) or is exempt from licensing under section 6106(b) (relating to firearms not to be carried without a license).
    (June 13, 1995, 1st Sp.Sess., P.L.1024, No.17, eff. 120 days)

    - There are public parking areas near the assembly site, see http://www.harrisburgparking.org/ , however carpooling is highly recommended!

    - The exact rally point is yet to be determined.

(updated 1/03/13) To understand the importance of this public demonstration, refer to this link for information provided by"The Community Tool Box": http://ctb.ku.edu/en/tablecontents/s...main_1258.aspx

Public demonstration is a big-dot deal, it's what creates lasting videos and sound bites. While we are planning for this to be a success, keep in mind that the media covering this, as well as most of the flock of sheeple, are looking at us to fail miserably. We can avoid negative perception by keeping ourselves focused and delivering a clear message; we are responsible citizens against gun violence. We oppose any restrictions that punish our law-abiding community while doing nothing to address the root causes.

WHAT WE CAN EXPECT DURING OUR DEMONSTRATION:
    - Media coverage
    - Probing and possibly leading questions by the media
    - Harassment by those of an opposing view. This will include taunting, baiting, viscious verbal attacks, and even being spit on or otherwise assaulted. WE MUST KEEP THE UPPER HAND AT ALL COSTS! Do not sink to the level of the antagonizers, that is EXACTLY what they want and EXACTLY what the media will play on the five, six, and eleven o'clock news!

We have arranged this demonstration to show the public that we are not the evil in the world. We must do everything possible to convey that. If you're coming for pure confrontation or a physical fight, stay home instead, you won't help us at all.

It is CRITICAL that we clearly understand our cause from the get-go.

    Update Friday 1/04/2013:

There are certain stipulations specified in the use of the Capitol public areas that must be understood by those who participate in this rally:

    - The public areas of the Capitol Complex must be maintained as intact, attractive, safe and readily available to the thousands of individuals who visit and work there. The Capitol Complex also must be available to individuals who wish to exercise their constitutional rights to assemble and to communicate their views to government officials and the public.

    - Responsibilities of users of the Capitol Complex. Individuals or organizations are responsible for returning the areas used in conducting their events or exhibits to their original condition. Individuals or organizations are responsible for any vandalism, damage, breakage, loss or other destruction to the Capitol Complex caused by that individual or organization. The Department will assess individuals or organizations for damages incurred. The cost of the repair will include the costs for the services of specialists in relevant historical restoration skills as determined by the Secretary.

    - Obligation to the Commonwealth to indemnify and hold harmless. Individuals and organizations using the Capitol Complex will be required by the Department to indemnify and hold harmless the Commonwealth, its departments, agents and employees, from and against all suits, damages, claims or other liabilities due to personal injury or death, damage to or loss of property to the Commonwealth or to others, or for any other injury or damage arising out of or resulting from the use of the Capitol Complex.

    - Damage to Commonwealth property. Defacing or damaging in any manner the Capitol grounds, including (without limitation) trees, shrubbery, flowers, lawns, sidewalks, fences, lighting fixtures, light wells, fire hydrants, benches, statues, monuments, plaques and subterranean features that are necessary for the maintenance and operation of the Capitol (such as lawn sprinkler systems, sewer and water mains, electrical conduit, and the like), or any other feature is not allowed. Likewise, defacing or damaging the exterior walls and surfaces of the building, including the entrances, porches and staircases, is not allowed.

    - Limitations applicable to certain Commonwealth property. Stepping or climbing upon statues, monuments, fences, lighting fixtures, light wells, trees or parts of the buildings and grounds within the Capitol Complex not intended for these purposes is not allowed.

    - Demonstrations and leafleting. Picketing, demonstrations and the distribution of literature may not impede or interfere with Commonwealth business or public access to and use of the buildings within the Capitol Complex. Individuals distributing literature shall remove all discarded items from the grounds at the conclusion of their activity.

    - Driving stakes or other items into the ground prohibited. Due to the presence of underground utility, electrical and drainage lines, signs or banners may not be driven into the ground, nor may they be supported in or by any tree, monument or other structure affixed to the Capitol grounds, except as authorized by the Secretary. Signs (excluding disclaimer signs required under § 86.3(8)(iv) (relating to policy governing the public areas of the Capitol Complex) or banners supported by freestanding devices) may not be left unattended. An individual shall be stationed within 2 feet of a freestanding sign or banner at all times to prevent damage to the grounds, injury to individuals, and for security reasons.

    - Alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages may not be served or consumed in any public area within the Capitol Complex...

These are no-brainer stipulations, but it is critical that we abide by this code, maintain decorum, and police after ourselves when done.

    Update 1/09/13:

ALL PLANNNG DETAILS ARE NOW FOUND IN A DEDICATED THREAD:

    Thanks, Don!

Same as you, I jumped on board to help move things where I can.

We encourage anyone and everyone else to do the same!

Let's get some slogan ideas for signage so we can "idiot check" each other I don't forsee any formal submission/approval thing, but let's share our ideas.

We should have signs. We should have some sound bytes ready. We need to be certain anything we say is accurate, so don't be afraid to ask!

Flyers! No, not the Philly ice pirates, the printed kind! Who can help with those?

We need to wordsmith how we convey Responsible gun ownership, Define the vast Contrast between legal and responsible gun owners versus murderous criminals.

WHAT do we want to ask for? 3 things. Either a "Do, Do, Don't" or a "Don't, Don't, Do" 3 asks, short and sweet executive summary kind of stuff. Then detailed explanation/discussion text.

Press releases- "Blah, blah, planning the first annual Blues Brothers march, blah, blah" Okay, not really Blues Brothers (who wore Black, for our less fortunate souls who do not know them), but WHAT do we want to call ourselves? Why are we wearing Blue? What does it symbolize?

    Do we want a logo?

Can we have 1/3 page strip handouts? Stickers?

WHY are we marching? WHO is our spokesman (or woman)?

Who is willing to coordinate with other groups? Are you a member of other groups you can involve and/or coordinate? Do they have something going that we can coordinate on for this trip?

Rendezvous point in Hbg for travellers? Better to meet at one point and then go from there?

Anyone have a ceremonial function we could perform that ties in with our respect for our country and our state? Maybe add a moment of silence, a lowering of a flag to half-staff on the capitol steps with a bugle playing taps in memory of those who fell in Connecticut at the hands of a mentally ill murderer?

Is there someone to whom we can present a flag who would be willing to take it with due respect and honor on behalf of those who died?

Do we have a couple of good speakers who can make our points briefly and effectively?

Who will be in charge of security? If there is any confrontations on the streets, from anti's, from gang bangers, etc, is there someone we can identify ahead of time who will address the situation? Maybe he will have a few (active or former LEO's, military, etc) experienced folks at the ready who know how to handle and diffuse conflict?

Is someone ready to speak to the media on our behalf?

Do we want to have armbands or some other symbol? I'm thinking along the lines of Iran Hostages armbands, not some Nazi looking thing!

What kind of firearms will we carry? What will be our code of conduct? If we want to look at each other's firearms, when and where do we do that (not during the march, stay holstered). What about long arms? Yes, no, limited?

This is NOT an all inclusive, or even accurate list of items. It's a tickler for brainstorming. Let's get into it. Let's see some ideas posted

Who is/are our political person(s)? Can we get someone to accept a plaque or something for their commitment to 2A and Freedom of our citizens? Who deserves it?

If we have particular politician(s) who have distinguished himself/herself in our Pro 2A struggle, let's present a "Pennsylvania Patriot" award to them.

Do we want to set up and announce a program of some sort (maybe move this to the April rally so we have more time?) that promotes safe handling of firearms, education, etc.

    What else?

Do we invite leaders from NRA, FOAC, others, to speak on the steps?

What are our metrics? How do we judge our success? How do we determine our next steps?

It is important, for me at least, that the Elders of this community; specifically Kim, ungawa, PennsyPlinker, renegadephoeinix and the rest, to know that this counter-demonstration to CeaseFire's event in NO WAY is meant to undermine those efforts that you all have so selflessly put in before. In fact, I intend to make the Rally in April. You all have my thanks for the work that you have done, and continue doing, in the political arena.

This thread is the direct result of the very real threat to our freedoms that is happening now, the threats that you warned us about earlier. They are here now, and those of us in this thread feel the need to act NOW. Ceasefire has thrown down the gauntlet and we must respond. We may have come on board too late to see or heed your warnings, but we all see now that the tsunami is on the horizon; we must be represented as the voice of reason and sanity while CeaseFire attempts to corral the sheeple.

We, who are new to the fold, are not any less adamant in our convictions as you are; we need your help in this show of the flag. Please do not let this issue divide us, rather help us in this essential display of unity.

    All the above

Take a read through them and tell us what you think you would be best at doing, or can make the most difference?

Got graphics skills? A brother who owns a copy shop? Aunt who can get us a discount at a "promotional items" store?

    These are just ideas.

    Let's get EVERYONE involved!

"Tell US" what you can do.

Oh- and I don't know about the other guys, but this is my first public protest. I am a very basic looking fellow with no special "gun rights" knowledge. Many of you can run circles around me in many areas. PLEASE DO SO!

You don't have to impress anyone and we won't have any pi$$n' contests over who does what. If you want to be involved in a particular area, DONE. You are involved.

I don't care if we have 2234 people who hand our flyers, or if we print our flyers at 25 different places. If you can "do," then jump in and "do"

Want to help with someone but not sure how to do it? Let's set up a few areas of interest (committees?) and stick your name in that hat. Then you can decide between the ones in that group who will lead or coordinate your efforts.

BTW, we ain't no pansies! If George Washington could bear the winter, so can we! Rain or shine, 6" or 6' of snow.

Someone else can jump in at any time. I am just a quick typist, not trying to take over anything here Someone please take my place! I am best behind the scenes, getting things done.

Who want to take point? I'll get it started- and see it through. But hopefully someone (or multiple) will step above me and do a proper job. LOL.

    VERY WELL SAID, Don!

    I agree 110%

As a matter of fact, as a long time "spectator" of those who have been organizing and attending protests (hangs head in shame), I sense many others are like me- not sure how to best get involved. We want to.

Maybe if we can get this going and get a number of new faces to reinforce all the previous and ongoing efforts, we can carry it on into the April and other events.

The more "organized" things we do, the better organized we will be. An organized and motivated group becomes a force to be respected. Political, financial, local, national, etc.

I join Don and others in hoping this effort will be embraced by those who have worked so hard and so long on our behalf. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

And, of course, you will have ours, too

    Shoulder, meet Grindstone
