Default Where to buy a gun safe?

I've been meaning to buy a gun safe for a while now but I didn't have the funds. Now I do so I was wondering where I should go to buy it. I was thinking about getting the biggest Liberty gun safe I could for around $1500. I'm pretty much set on Liberty but I am willing to hear others arguments. I have a bunch of friends who are in pretty good shape who can help me haul it but delivery would also be nice. The only place around me that I know sells Liberty safes is Gander Mountain. Any suggestions on which model I should get?

Ace sporting goods in Washington carries nice safes, I think they have Heritage safes.

Personally I got my 28 gun safe at dicks before they became their name.

Yeah Ace is great but I was thinking about buying it somewhere closer to the Pittsburgh area.

You might want to take a couple minutes and do a site search. This topic has been discussed ad nauseam.

If you were in central PA I'd show you the Champion safes we have, but since you're not let's keep going.

The first part is how many guns do you want to fit (figure on every scoped long gun will take up two spots on average), the fire rating, and since you mentioned Liberty, do you want made in the US?

As far as fire ratings go, there really isn't an average on how hot a house fire will get. If the room is open (windows blown out or ceiling collapsed) then the fire will pretty much double in temp. In a closed room however the average seems to run around 900-1300 degrees. Most safes, even inexpensive ones tend to have a fire rating of around 1100-1300 for 30min to 45min. The higher end safes have an even higher temp rating, and a longer time. There is also the UL CLASS 350 rating which is a whole test that is done to a safe. If you can find one with that rating then go for it; it will hold up to almost anything as far as fires go.

On to the made in the US part. Currently Liberty safes are assembled here, and have compenents made overseas. There may still be some Liberty's made entirely here, but not all. I know Champion safes are made here from start to finish.

I hope this helps, and feel free to ask any questions and I'll try my best to answer them.

As wildbill said, Amazon prime is awesome with the shipping. That's huge when you're talking about a 500-1000 pound item.

I live in Montgomery County and I bought a Fort Knox from The Safe Man, LLC in Alpha, NJ back in October. It was sold approx. MSRP--I don't remember the exact price. I ordered it about 5-6 weeks prior and it arrived at their shop in perfect order. I took a pleasant ride out to their shop into NJ via. Nockamixon SP into Upper Black Eddy, PA over the river and into Milford NJ heading North to Alpha, NJ. It's a fairly scenic ride along the Delaware River--and no traffic!

The crew was expert in loading it for me into my truck and were friendly & pleasant.

I'll definitely be buying from them again.

    Their number is 908 213 3222
