Default Breakfree CLP - Good or not?

I've been reading differing opinions on the utility of Break-free CLP to both clean and lubricate guns. What are the members' positions on its use? Seems to work fine for my pistols and rifles so far, has anyone ever encountered any issues with it?

I've been using it to clean guns for years. It does pretty well and isn't too expensive.

    A better gun cleaner: MPro7

    A better lubricant: Weapon Shield

It's I product that I have tried but don't use as their are products that do a better job cleaning & lubing than Breakfree CLP

My brain won't let me grasp lubing my gun with something I clean it with. Maybe it's just me, but I like the old school method of cleaner for cleaning and lube for lubing.

That's kinda like asking Ford or Chevy. Everybody likes one thing or another.

I think it's a good product. I don't know what's in it, but it actually does clean and lube quite well. What's the big surprise, detergent motor oils have been around for a long time.

I was just reviewing the GI book for cleaning/lubing the M-15/16 and they mention CLP by name and it is the only product listed for this.

I also remember watching a show on the M-16 and how it was prone to jamming in Vietnam and they shipped CLP over when it was first developed. They told GIs to stop cleaning or lubing the rifles and just spray the hell out of it CLP and they say it improved performance hang solved jamming.

I guess that's good enough for me - its all I use.

I use it but mix in a little kroil for some extra cleaning power. I use M7 in the end for the storage part. All in all it's decent stuff but to each his own.

If you read the TM you'll see CLP is also used down to a temperature of -35 F!

Yea, but are you going to clean your car with it?

The detergents in the oil don't actually clean the engine, per se. They are simply additives to keep combustion deposits from becoming sludge. Any detergent oil will become sludge if you leave it in long enough as the oil can only hold so much of the carbon from combustion. We don't see it much, today, because engines are so meticulously built, and with electronic fuel management systems, 99.99% of the deposits go out of the exaust, anyway, being converted into water vapor and carbon dioxide. Not saying not to use CLP, just saying.

I'm "old-school" so it's WD-40 for cleaning. Rem-oil for lube. If I had to choose a "combo", I'd choose Break Free.
