It's time for Pennsylvania to again take the lead. (aka my letter to Sen. Bob Casey)
Our great Commonwealth once led the Colonies in forming our great nation, hosting the Constitutional Convention, the signing of the US Constitution, and even hosting our Nation's first Government Capital.
It is once again time for Pennsylvania to take the lead and stand against the tyranny that seeks to take away our freedom and security....
For better or worse, here is my letter to Sen Bob Casey:
Mr. Casey,
As a native and resident of Pennsylvania, I strongly urge you to reconsider your position on gun control laws and RESIST any attempts to enact or strengthen such laws.
Do not betray our trust or diminish our rights, Senator.
Our fine Commonwealth has a long history of freedom and promoting a Government of the Free People.
As the original location of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, we have a special responsibility to uphold its ideal, principles, and the rights they outlined.
Among these are very special rights, warranting specific enumeration, called the Bill of Rights. These very specific rights are NEVER to be infringed upon as long as the US Constitution and the Government of the United States of America reign as the ruling power of this great land.
Do not allow yourself, or our fellow citizen legislators, to be swayed or manipulated by the media or anti-gun lobbyists.
The 2nd Amendment is for the protection of Citizens against all comers- from the criminal on the street to an overbearing government.
It is, indeed, one of the key checks and balances established between the Government and its Citizens. Allowing one to be unequally armed tilts the balance in one direction.
Remember, Senator, the purpose of our Government is FOR the people and BY the people.
The only way to preserve our form of government, our freedoms, and our way of life is to ultimately empower our citizens, by which our Government derives its powers.
Without the support and security of its citizens, any Government is pure folly and cannot be sustained.
Unless your intent is to somehow encourage, permit, or unknowingly enable a change in our form of government where free Pennsylvanians become mere subjects of the Government, I urge you to STAND FIRM AGAINST ANY ADDITIONAL OR MORE RESTRICTIVE GUN CONTROL MEASURES.
Our great state hosted the Constitutional Convention to help form the basis of this great Nation we call Our United States of America.
Now it is time to again stand against the tyranny that threatens to take away our freedoms.
We are loyal American Citizens. We are loyal Pennsylvanians. We are responsible, voting gun owners. We will again stand firm against all comers. We are the United States. We uphold her ideals, freedom and security being paramount.
Stand with us, Senator. Show the World that Pennsylvanians and all Americans shall not be manipulated or coerced out of our freedoms!
We need YOU to be our strong leader and stand against the threat of tyranny!
I urge you to reflect on the Constitution and your loyal Pennsylvanian constituents. We need you to stand up and be counted as a defender of Liberty.
Stand with us, Senator, that we may repel those who seek to strip away our freedoms and weaken our country.
Sincerely,
Fellow Pennsylvanian and American Citizen,
{Name Redacted}
Stand Free, Stand Firm, but most of all...STAND UP!I Dial 1911

Great letter. Remember "when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty".

Exactly. I am a third grade teacher myself and am made to stifle my beliefs on a regular basis. Students don't want to say the pledge of allegiance in my class I make them write it once the pledge is over. Lets just say its not/wasn't the most popular consequence from my fellow staff. Makes my stomach turn.

A good thoughtful letter, thanks.

I have already sent a letter to Casey, Toomey and Rep Platts. Today is for a different letter for those outside of my representations. It will be more of a reminder of 1996, reminder of their oath to the U.S. Constitution.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
- Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I just sent a letter to Casey as well after reading an article on KDKA Pittsburgh that said Casey is going to support the so-called "Assault Weapons" ban. We can only hope that he actually listens to us, but anymore I can't help but feel that politicians don't really care what we the people think and want. They're more concerned with what their constituents and the media want. Never did I think the day would come that I would feel my voice didn't matter anymore...
