Default Reloading for a Glock 23 Gen 4

Hey everyone, as I just picked up my new Glock 23 Gen 4, I started doing some research regarding reloading .40 S&W for it. Now I've seen the issue from time to time about people being weary of reloading for Glocks in particular. If I'm using a FMJ bullet to do so, should I be worried? I've read mixed reviews about using plated bullets with Glocks. I'd like to stick to FMJ's. Anyone have any experience with reloading for this model Glock and have any advice regarding powders/primers/bullets, what to use or not to use? Thanks.

FMJ will be great in your G23. I reload my .40 with CCI primers, hodgdon universal and either plated,FMJ or hollow point 155gr bullets.

    Truth.

I've shot a ton of plated through my G35.

I have about 2500 reloaded rounds through my Gen 3 G23. Never any issues.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just a little skeptical, especially since there seems to be a highlighted warning in every manual about loading .40 and making sure it suits your gun. I'm going to be using Federal primers, either Hornady or Precision Delta FMJ 180 gr flat point bullets, and most likely Winchester 231 powder.

Yep more plated bullets here in my Glock also. Now while I don't shoot 40 S&W I do shoot 10mm which is the same bullet only driven a bit faster. Many many rounds down the pipe. Your GTG.

Wanted to revive this thread. I'm going to start reloading for my G23 gen 4. From what I've been reading, the gen 4 seems to be safe when it comes to putting reloads through it.

Question though, will I need to get a crimping die for the "bulge issue"? Or will I be able to get by without it? When is the crimping die used in the reloading process?

You taper crimp to take out the bell you put in the casing so the bullets would seat without issue. To take out the Glock bulge I HIGHLY recommend the Lee U die you can purchase locally from Evolution Gun Works.

Do you happen to have any pics of a bulged case so I know what to look for?
