    Default CCW in schools event??

Did anyone else see the WJAC story about the guy who carried his gun into the Turkeyfoot Valley schools on Friday and was not charged. Story said that the state police and attorney generals office said the laws were unclear and conflicting. Specifically cited the "for other lawful purposes" clause.

Just read the somserset DA is now saying you cannot carry, but SP are saying you might be able to.

    Link.

This is a good thing if it's true.

It mentions him trying to make a point. I wonder if they have metal detectors or if he OC'd or brought it to their attention in some way?

Either way, test case coming... The law states OTHER LAWFUL PURPOSES and self defense very well fits that bill. So maybe we will now have clarification and schools will hopefully become CLEARLY guns allowed instead of a very grey poorly worded law.

Would be nice to make it specific to cover that self defense by a legally armed person is other lawful purpose...

The news story said he walked into the office and clearly announced that he was carrying a CCW.

Sounds as though he was intentionally pushing the issue.

OK... which one of you was it?
    .
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this and whether or not charges will be pressed against the individual. I live in Somerset and two of my boys go to school within the SASD. Their school does not have any "Weapons Prohibited" signs, just the usual drug and smoke free campus signs.

There are no metal detectors either. And I'm quite sure that there are several parents that are CCWing when they pick up their kids, especially after what happened last week at Sandy Hook.

The school had a big sign on the front post with a list of things such as:

    smoke free
    weapon free
    blah blah free

Turkeyfoot is the school that has the no weapons sign posted. My boys go to Somerset. Outside of their school there is no sign.

Someone with more money than I have.

This could be a long drawn out battle and it will be expensive.

I hope this settles the "any lawful purpose" once and for all.
