If we all go out and buy at least one gun, renew LTCF, help others get their LTCF, etc- all things that will trigger the PICS effort, the stats on how many PICS requests have been made in December, especially AFTER Obama's threats of additional gun control, could be a very powerful message to officials everywhere.

Imagine if we had 200 requests. What about 2000? Think they would get a stronger message if there were 20,000 PICS requests?

If you were an elected official considering a strike against PA gun owners, the last thing you would want is for them to mobilize their resources against you.

What better way to make sure they see and feel the 'rumblings' of the Pro-2A voters than this?

Besides, it gives us all an excuse to buy a gun and add to the Pro-2A ranks by helping others become responsible LTCF holders.

Note: This kind of effort should be IN ADDITION TO writing and calling our reps, not as a substitute. Everyone can do this.

Q: How do we get PICS stats? FOIA? To whom?

I bought a G17 on Monday... and have been considering stopping by again Thursday or Friday to see what's left to pick from. Problem is there's not much left in my "logistically convenient" gun shop that I'm interested in.

There was almost an hour wait on PICS on Monday, and I was 3rd in the queue at closing time. They're getting hammered.

    Very interesting read.

The report states that there were 167,656 LTCF issued in 2011. One assumes that these are new issues and renewals and since a LTCF is valid for 5 years (I think) there should be approximately 5 times this number of active LTCF 'on the streets'. About 800,000?

I would love PA to match and exceed Florida's 1,000,000 Licenses.

    VERY NICE, thank you!

    Interesting excerpts:

In 2011, PICS handled 739,682 transactions for sheriffs and licensed firearm dealers throughout
    the Commonwealth.
the overall approval rate of background checks that were initiated in 2011 is 95 percent.
    and this:

AVERAGE PICS BACKGROUND CHECK CALL TIME
PICS computer system statistical summaries were used to determine the average length of time
taken to complete a background check call for 2011. The figures below do not include calls that
were placed into research status for more than one day.
 Calls handled through the automated system averaged 5.6 minutes.*
*IVR issued approvals averaged between 2 and 3 minutes to process, once the
dealer/sheriff enters and confirms the subject’s data. However, there are occasions on
which a system issue may cause the call duration to increase.
 Operator assisted approvals averaged 6.3 minutes.
 Operator assisted denials averaged 13.5 minutes.
    And this:

 606,924 firearms were reported purchased/transferred in Pennsylvania in 2011.
     302,457 handguns were reported purchased/transferred.
     304,467 long guns were reported purchased/transferred.
And this (I really like this report)

There were a total of 167,656 licenses to carry firearms issued as reported by county sheriffs’
offices and chiefs of police of cities of the first class in 2011.
    Can't forget this:

It will be very interesting to know what 2012 ends up being, especially Nov and Dec.

Here's some updated info in an article about Westmoreland County LTCF applications.

    http://triblive.com/news/westmorelan...s-gun-mueseler

    Excerpt:

The number of license-to-carry permits issued in Westmoreland County are up by nearly 4,300 over last year — with 12,507 permits issued as of the end of business on Thursday.
Sheriff Jonathan Held said his office has been busy all year processing the carry permits, which typically increase in a presidential election year. But he has noticed two spikes in applications. The first came after the July movie theater shooting that left 10 people dead in Colorado, and the second spike came after this month‘s school shooting in Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults died.
“I guess it‘s just the tenor in our society right now,” Held said.
During those spikes, the department averaged 150 permits a day — three times more than a normal day.

Only a fool would fail to recognize this kind of activity as the voice of the Citizens. And only a bigger fool would intentionally light that powder-keg.
