Looking to buy an AK - couple questions first
So I missed the boat on picking up an AK at the Oaks show yesterday but think it may have been for the best so I can do a little more research and get the right one.
This will be simply for fun so a $1000+ Arsenal, while nice, isnt happening.
I know I want to stick to 7.62x39 and have a few of the 30rd Tapco mags at home already (couldnt pass on the price).
I think it will really come down to Saiga or WASR -- and where I can actually get one.
However, I have heard about "conversions" being needed to the Saiga to fit the mags. Would the WASR have this done already?

Re: Looking to buy an AK - couple questions first
double stack wasr are run of the mill romanian copies of the mil spec gun, made in a military plant. saiga are "sporting purpose" guns made in a mil spec plant that lots of people convert to std mil configuration in terms of furniture, etc.
don't worry about it. you'll know what you want when you see it.

Check out www.classicfirearms.com
They have
saiga for 620.
Yugo m70 for 625
Wasr for 550.
But best choice is vepr for 700 which is basically is a sport version of rpk.

Not to put you in a panic; but don't wait much longer. Act now.
The anti's are at full throttle due to the shootings in CT. Even supposedly pro-gun politicos from WVA are supporting Bloomberg's call for control. They are not going to waste the opportunity a good tragedy gives them. All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

Re: Looking to buy an AK - couple questions first
I started to but since I am at work, most firearms stuff is blocked.
Honestly, this is the ONLY reason as to why I want to get this now. Im not the "omg they are taking our guns" kinda guy, but after these recent events, I know something will happen (no matter who was in office - as I didnt buy into that panic either).
The way I see it is that they can shut down imports quite easily and this would be highly affected in that process. The AK was on my "want" list but wasnt a priority by any means, but this changed that process as I wanted to get in before it was too late or before the prices went through the roof.
And as I am tying this my wife just ordered that converted Saiga w/ the shooters package. OTD the price will be about what I could have purchased the gun only for locally.
Im a happy camper

Re: Looking to buy an AK - couple questions first
Smart move.
The imports are the low-hanging fruit. ARs are domestically made by a million "manufacturers" employing US citizens, and as we have seen, US corps will throw us and the 2A under the bus in a NY-minute to maintain profits. They'll start breaking ranks with "no more flashiders" and lo-cap mags as soon as they see the need, while the politicians will not allow the loss of all those US jobs.
OTOH, SAIGAs and WASRs and Paps and VEPRs...All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

Do look, but don't limit yourself to Classic. They went downhill big time with the new managment.
Gloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"

Re: Looking to buy an AK - couple questions first
Glad I ordered when I did ... When I placed my order I was able to do so with the additional $30 "Shooters Package" which included 3 more mags, sling, carry bag, recoil buffer, eyes/ears, cleaning kit and oiler.
As of this morning that package was no longer available
As of tonight the gun is now on backorder and the price has gone up $80!!
