Where do I start with belts?
Ok, I have been carrying for years but with custom holsters that fit the small sections of belt webbing of my EMS camp cargo pants - yes, that's all I've worn for the past decade - in different colors - and no I don't wear the exact same soiled pants every day in case there are some wise guys out there. The crafters have pretty much customized my holsters with J clips spaced to where the two exposed belt sections are so it works, but there's not much in the way of support weight wise for larger arms because they're thin synthetic pants made to dry quickly when wet. Well, it sucks - big time so I'm considering moving back to jeans and getting a real belt - I'm assuming 1.5" is the best overall option for holster comparability. I'm going to start carrying OWB which I've never done because of the lack of support I had before.
Anyway - I'd like some suggestions on good brands of belts and what I should look for as well as what I should stay away from. Much appreciated.

1.5" would be a "standard". I have a beltman belt as well as an ares ranger belt.
I prefer the ares, it is very impressive but both are nice belts.FOAC Member, NRA Member

I got a blade-tech leather belt that is very durable and has given me no problems.

I've picked up a belt from an amish guy in Lancaster. I paid $20 and its a heavy belt very sturdy. I've been using it everyday and every so often use it to carry a SAA in 357 and it works great. I believe someone on here sells similar belts for similar cost. Much cheaper alternative to the other options imo.

Re: Where do I start with belts?
Ares Ranger belt. At $80 it is pricey, but it may be the best belt going for supporting a weapon and mags for CCW. It is ridiculously stiff, so your gun doesnt pull away or twist like nylon belts. It also won't wear or stretch as fast as some leather belts. Do some research on it and see what you think. The company has a 4 week wait time, but you can order from Larue tactical and skip the wait.
