    Default I just picked up my LTCF in Pittsburgh

    It was a nice day so I parked down on Liberty Avenue near Planned Parenthood and walked to the courthouse. Black BDU pants, light blue/teal three button polo, open carried Glock in a Blackhawk Serpa.

    Nobody panicked, nobody called the police, just had a nice walk, stopped at the Army Navy and grabbed some hi-vis yellow paracord (100' for $9 or so, not the best price ever but they didn't have the pants I wanted in my size so I figured I'd buy something, gotta support a small business that I enjoy!), got back to my car, drove home.

    There was an older couple behind me getting their first LTCF but otherwise it was empty when I went in, and when I went to leave there was a line formed, another six or so people. Busy day!

    I kind of wish I had something else to do in the city while I was there, it felt like an otherwise wasted trip.

    Was this a renewal? Must have been, since you drove with a firearm.

    Also, the Pittsburgh sheriff's department is not gun friendly--they have a prominent sign ordering everyone to come unarmed to the office where LTCF applications are processed. If they didn't mind you OC, that's a positive sign. I do in fact CC there, but I'm pretty low key about it because I don't want some flunkey to refuse to hand over my LTCF because I showed up armed.

    Yes, it was a renewal. Unsurprisingly I've been carrying for five years now

    I didn't notice any such sign, but nobody said anything while I was there. Where is that sign?

    I thought carrying at the sheriff's office was illegal:

    18 PA C.S. Chapter 9

    § 913. Possession of firearm or other dangerous weapon in court
    facility.
    (a) Offense defined.--A person commits an offense if he:
    (1) knowingly possesses a firearm or other dangerous
    weapon in a court facility or knowingly causes a firearm or
    other dangerous weapon to be present in a court facility;
    or
    (2) knowingly possesses a firearm or other dangerous
    weapon in a court facility with the intent that the firearm
    or other dangerous weapon be used in the commission of a
    crime or knowingly causes a firearm or other dangerous weapon
    to be present in a court facility with the intent that the
    firearm or other dangerous weapon be used in the commission
    of a crime.

    snip

    required under subsection (d). (f) Definitions.--As used in this section, the following
    words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this
    subsection:
    "Court facility." The courtroom of a court of record; a
    courtroom of a community court; the courtroom of a magisterial
    district judge; a courtroom of the Philadelphia Municipal Court;
    a courtroom of the Pittsburgh Magistrates Court; a courtroom
    of the Traffic Court of Philadelphia; judge's chambers; witness
    rooms; jury deliberation rooms; attorney conference rooms;
    prisoner holding cells; offices of court clerks, the district
    attorney, the sheriff and probation and parole officers; and
    any adjoining corridors.
    Am I wrong?

    It's not the sheriff's office itself, or in the courthouse itself, in Allegheny. There's a little off to the side office that has its own entrance in the courtyard just for Firearms related stuff.

    D'OH! Good question! In Pittsburgh, the room you go into for your LTCF opens directly onto the outside, so it's not connected to the courthouse or the Sheriff's office itself. Would this be defined as a Sheriff's office, since it's an "office" staffed by Sheriff's deputies? Quite possibly. I'll assume it is, from now on, until I hear differently.

    Liberifle, the sign is on the door to the outside.

    My GUESS would be that any office of the sheriff falls under that statute:

    ...offices of court clerks, the district attorney, the sheriff...

    I'd interpret that plural as "there are multiple offices listed after this point"

    I asked the question last week:

    http://forum.pafoa.org/concealed-car...g-up-ltcf.html

    Seems pretty obvious to me this is an "office of the sheriff's dept."

    I did not carry to the office....duly noting the irony that the office that has cleared me to carry a concealed weapon is not allowing me to carry a weapon on their premesis.
