22lr vs center fire ammo
Everything I read about rimfire says its a dirty round compared to center fire. Why is that? Do they use different powder? Could someone explain. Thanks

Re: 22lr vs center fire ammo
.22RF is based on trying to provide a cartridge as cheap as possible. Cheaper powders and less priming.
The powder used in 22's isn't really much different from what is used in other cartridges made for budget oriented sales.
The only technical factors that contribute to a dirtier burn is the lower pressures and the priming. Low pressures don't help propagate a flame, which in turn is counter productive to a clean burn. And the priming with rimfires is rather weak compared to a boxer or berdan type primer, which in turn makes ignition and full burn unreliable.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515
