Default Positive encounter at Giant Eagle.

Apparently this shouldn't be a surprise, because I found some posts from 2011 regarding an encounter which yielded that GE is OC friendly.. but here it is.

I went out Saturday morning to do some grocery shopping at the Northern Lights location in Economy. I had my fire pager on, just loud enough that I could listen in. While I was there, the tones dropped and my pager went off. Apparently an elderly male had passed out in aisle 10, and I was in aisle 12. So, I headed over and introduced myself to the managers that were there and explained that I was off-duty ambulance personnel and proceeded to assess the patient while the duty crew responded.

After giving my report and transferring care, they left with patient, and one of the managers, Ed, asked me what I was carrying. I told him, and he explained that he had an XDm. We talked briefly about our respective firearms, OC, and self defense and then parted ways after a good handshake.

I finished my shopping and that was that.

Good to hear. I frequent G.E. but always conceal everywhere I go (legally of course) because I just don't want to deal with argements, hassle, potential uneducated police, etc. Good job with the elderly male as well!

Kudos to the OP for responding on his off time to a person in need. Good encounter.

Thanks guys. We'll see how this location holds up against the new Walmart going in soon! Maybe GE will expand into a Market District? There are certain things I would rather buy there than at Walmart!

I bet they will be sending a large gift basket to your ambulance service, and maybe the on duty crew service (it may have been the same company)

It happened to us when I responded while "Off Duty" with M1 to a cardiac arrest in the parking lot of the new giant eagle market district. I was inside grabbing some lunch druning a training ride when a worker approached me asking if I was with EMS. She said someone had fell in the parking lot. A Police Officer that was there for PR during the new opening met me outside where I parked the bike and said it was an arrest. PD already had an AED attached. I was also met by a orthopedic surgeon that "helped" me with CPR. Ended up being some top guy for G.E., unfortunately he didnt make it.

Yeah, same company. A good number of us are local to the service area, who there's a good chance of someone responding off duty.

    Crazy story, unfortunate though.

I've never had so much as a second look in the NL Giant Eagle. Nicely handled on all counts.

after a person from leginor posted a thread that a mgr. gave him questions about open carry in the monroeville GE, i talked to the senior mgr. and asked him what GE rules were w/ open carry. he said he didn`t know about the incident. he and the GE corp. has no problems w/ open carry. he said he open carries himself at times.
