Cache of artillery shells found, North Braddock PA

NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. -- Artillery shells, grenades and guns were found in a North Braddock shed on Monday evening.

The bomb squad arrived at the shed outside a home along Orchard Street after a person said they saw something unusual while walking their dog.

About 100 artillery shells, 15 guns and some grenades were found.

The bomb squad believes the items were being collected and not intended for malicious intent.

As a precaution, neighbors were asked to stay in their homes. They were given the OK to come out after the items were ruled inert.

The shells were taken to the airport, where the bomb squad has a center, and they'll be detonated at an undetermined future time.

according to channel 11 news on fox 53 (it still cracks me up that the local fox affiliate outsources their nightly local news to the a rival local NBC affiliate) they are not going to destroy the guns "some of which date back to the 1800s".

I grew up in the house on the corner of hope and orchard street in north braddock. about 3 houses from that house. i am 56 years old and remember the old guy that lived in that house. he collected all kinds of war items from the civil war through ww 2. he also had an old model t in the shed that he would not sell. he kept to himself and did not like kids. he died many years ago and his wife died about 12 years ago. i bet there is a gold mine of war items in that old house. This would of been 40 years ago, as i was around 16 years old.

Huh? What was the crime pursuant to which the gov't could, lawfully under the 4th amendment, seize private property? The law which allows the gov't to destroy the property and thus deprive its owner of it without due process of law?

Time to write the media that flashed the mislead news and have them retract or correct their stories. Their terminology needs addressed to as what words they choose to use so as not to throw out buzz words that are completely inappropriate. Use of such buzz words is only for attention whoring and to instill fear into the masses of sheep that we call neighbors.

Common practice is to use explosives to detonate a potential explosive.

I'm so sick of the local news. I refuse to watch it. They have prostituted themselves for ratings and commercialism. What ever happen to the factual/ethical news we used to watch 40 years ago? I remember a half hour of news with limited or no commercial breaks. Sorry for the semi-high jack.
