Faster accurate follow-ups
I'm looking to replace my current carry arm, a Taurus Millenium, with something with a shorter/lighter trigger pull. I am leaning towards the S&W M&P .40. Am I leaning in the right direction? I am partial to the .40 S&W, stainless steel, and large capacity.

Re: Faster accurate follow-ups
I would look for an older 3rd generation smith. The double / single action works great for quick followups. I don't know how small you want to go though. Beretta and Sig may have options as well.

Re: Faster accurate follow-ups
You're definitely not going to get the best follow up shots with what you have. An M&P is also light and still isn't optimal for fast follow up shots with a .40 cal. cartridge. You probably aren't going to do much better than this for what you are asking, unless you get a .40 cal. 1911. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/30573
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

.40SW is naturally a snappy round. Unless you get a heavy firearm, the muzzle flip is going to be high.

Look into Beretta 96 compact. You will like it.

I would say buy it, then spend some time behind the trigger to learn how to control it. Once you get that keep proficient with it regularly and you will be fine. A good way to do this and enjoy yourself is to get involved in local pistol comps. It helps not only with follow up shots and recoil management but cuts down on draw times and reload processes. The M&P is a great firearm you won't be disappointed.
Good luck.

Re: Faster accurate follow-ups
I found that the for me, I can do follow up MUCH faster with a weapon with a crisper reset trigger, and easier to pick up front sight, much more so then the shorter reset, or heavier weapon(although, they certainly helps).
I was long time M&P believer, and to some extent, I still am.
But I feel that the stock M&P trigger is a .. Poo.
I never realise that until I had trigger job done to it. Difference is night and day.
So if your going to go with M&P40, I'd HIGHLY suggest that you perform trigger job(or drop in) on it. You'll be amazed how much easier to do the follow up.
M&P is a fantastic weapon. I had M&P9, M&P9C, and M&P45.
I've been partial to Glock now days. Infact, I went back and forth between M&P40, and G22 for a long time, before settled on G22.
Because I find that the while stock Glock trigger on my G22 is bit on heavier side, their reset is very pronounced, and pretty short. And I can do the follow up shot with amazing accuracy(and even more, if I hang light on rail)...Last edited by Mity2; December 13th, 2012 at 06:18 PM.

Re: Faster accurate follow-ups
Thanks for the opinions everyone. I will look into all the above mentioned guns.
Mity, what do you mean by "reset"?
