    Default LEO purchase thru PICS?

Junior.K just graduated from the Police Academy and is employed by a real PD (Mrs.K is bustin' buttons ). He is picking out his off-duty gun as we speak and I just want to clarify for him:

When he makes a gun purchase does he need to go through PICS, or is his LEO ID sufficient?

INAL nor LEO, but it was my understanding if he transfers it through the deparment or whatever it doest need PICS, but as an individual it still does...

I'm a LEO and every single one of my purchases goes through PICS, just like anyone else.

If he were getting issued a department sidearm, then there would be no PICS since the handgun is "owned" by the department, not him.

Just to echo what they said, I sold a revolver to a LEO, we had to transfer it at a FFL and he went through PICS just like everyone else.

The only exception would be a chief sign-off that the firearm was being purchased for duty. I purchased my Colt 6520 that way and it was shipped directly to me (at the station) from the dealer.

All my personal guns go through PICS and issued sidearm is a borrowed weapon.

Same here, except I was able to purchase my original borrowed weapon, a S & W model 10. Which went thru PICS also. They set up a day for buying your retired weapon at a selected gun store.

It might be a good idea for Jr. K. to contact www.officerstore.com to check out the law enforcement pricing on firearms. There are also other firearms dealers that offer law enforcement pricing and/or discounts.

Yup this exactly, just like everyone else said. So...what did he choose for off duty and what is he issued?
