1 Day yes, the other day Denied

I have a question about PICS check. I went to a gun store and purchased a .45 Ruger. Was put on a 15 day hold and then 4 days later got an approval number. Picked up my weapon, no problems. Went to the same gun store, attempted to purchase a 9mm Ruger and was DENIED !!!! What gives ?? Same info, havent seen a police officer for anything between the purchases. Even used my Social Security # for both purchases.

Does sound strange.. And then to be denied again? We need more info on the op.

15 days is the max that the law allows for researching. Federal law says the transfer must be allowed if no determination is made within that time frame. The PSP though has a policy that states the transfer must be denied after 15 days.

Now, that 15 days doesn't mean it will take all 15 days. Sometimes it is seconds after the potential buyer leaves, sometimes the entire 15 days. You are told 15 days regardless as to how long it will take.

The reason between the delay the first time and the denial could be due to two different operators giving two different opinions on whatever raised a red flag.

If you have nothing in your records, then file the challenge. If you have a spotty, but you aren't prohibited, then file the challenge too. If you know there is something in your background that could possibly be prohibiting, you may want to speak to an attorney before proceeding.

Challenge letter received yesterday and picked up my new .40 Smith & Wesson today. Thanks for all the help.
