Default License to Carry in Berks County

I sent in my application and check last week and my check was cashed this week.

Anyone know how long they usually take to approve? Will they call or send me a letter?

Mine took about 3 weeks form the time I mailed in the application/payment. Approval notification is via regular mail. Once the letter is received, take it to the Sheriff's Office (County Courthouse in Reading). They make you sign, take a picture, and then issue you the license (plastic card).

I've been trying to get the answer to my photo question from their web-site, and via phone, for the past month. The form kind of infers that you should attach a photo, but nowhere on the site does it say that you should or that they will take one. I certianly didn't want to get it returned as being incomplete. I guess that means that my form gets sent out in tomorrow's mail.

I don't know if it's changed since Feb '06, but yes, they took my picture at the Sheriff's Office with a camera similar to what PennDOT uses for licenses. Take it FWIW.

    Ummm...

Take a look at the first page of the application packet:
    http://www.co.berks.pa.us/sheriff/li...n_web_2006.pdf

They ask you fill out the form, have references complete their forms, send a check, and:

Got my license today. That was really quick. It took only eight days from the day they received my application.

That is great news greyhouse. I sent the forms in today, I'll let everyone know my turnaround time when I get the form back. Considering we're about to hit the holidays though, I doubt I'll see it before the middle of January.

I bet you'll get it before then. I sent the application on the 9th and they received it on the 11th. Check was cashed on the 13th and my license was issued on the 18th. Got the notice in the mail today, the 19th.

There was no wait in the court house. Went in, handed him my approval letter and SS card/ID, then I signed and took a picture. Was done in under 5 minutes.
