Bulk rifle AMMO question....

Saw some "Russian" bulk packed in tins 7.62X39 ammo, brand unspecified any further, at GM @ $178.00 for 640 rounds.

Any experience or comments on the price and/or quality/reliability of this ammo?

I'm not really an expert but if it's older military surplus it's probably corrosive. Some of the modern production stuff from Russian companies like Tula and Wolf come packed in the surplus-looking tin cans so it could be that as well. For price comparison I can normally get a case of 1000 modern-russian made from Sportsman's Guide in the $200-$225 range shipped after my member discount and a coupon. Figure about $10 more for non-member prices. So my price is about $0.20-$0.22/round. The price you mentioned would be over $0.27/round.

With all the new non corrosive stuff that's available out there on the internet market. I would personally just stick with wolf or tula . I know my AK's love both of those ammo's. Besides 27.8 cents a round for that surplus stuff is way to expensive for 762x39.

Over the last couple of years there has been a lot of non corrosive bulk packs of 640 put out by Russian plants so it could be corrosive or non corrosive, something to check out. Seems to be about the going price these days.

Here is a site that compares prices from different places, tells you if it is corrosive or not, price per round, and if you enter your zip code will give you the total price of the ammo with shipping.
