How old is my Makarov?
Hi, I have been a huge Makarov fan for quite some time. I bought one today in Wexford, I can not figure out how old it is. Here is some details
Makarov Handgun
Made in Russia by IMEZ = (made in Russia by a company Abbreviated IMEZ, Imported to the US by K.B.I. in Harrisburg, PA)
IJ70-18A = (its a commercial Makarov, chambered in 9x18 makarov, standard capacity)
Serial Numbr = A CP 0653
Import Serial number = H609427
3 import marks = A horseshoe looking mark with a P in it, A circle with an arrow pointing up, and a Circle with a mark that looks like a "n"
I can not for the life of me figure out how old it is.
I know this is not a genuine Russian Makarov, that is beyond the point. someone please help me figure out how old this is.

Re: How old is my Makarov?
The Imez IJ70s imported by KBI were brought into the US in the early to late 90s. Your commercial Makarov with the adjustable sight is new production from that timeframe.
Just a reminder: The elevation screw in the rear sight has a big head and very small diameter shank and is easily snapped. Replacement screws were once available from makarov.com, but they stopped selling parts about five or six years ago, maybe more.
Enjoy the new Mak!

Does that mean it was made in the 90's? or was that just when it was imported? Is there any way to tell when it was made?

Re: How old is my Makarov?
"not a genuine Russian Makarov" says who? Is there another Russia somewhere that we dont know about?
It is a genuine Russian Makarov, only difference is it has an adjustable rear sight to meet ATF requirement as a sporting arm and a bunch of importers names and marks, but yeah they are made at the same factory as there were no "sporting factory " in the USSR.
