Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
I just bought my first ar-15. I have a M&P 15/22. I want to get a conversion kit and sell my M&P. What do you guys suggest I go with?

Re: Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
I suggest keeping the M&P 22.
Seems to me that you're going "backwards" by losing a complete rifle to go to swapping bolts just to use it. Perhaps there's a reason for your decision I hadn't considered though.
I can't offer any help on the conversion bolts though - I just went ahead and got a dedicated .22 upper - which I will eventually get a lower for so I don't need to swap them.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
While YMMV, I decided long ago that if I wanted to shoot 22LR from an AR15 platform, I would do it on a separate, complete rifle.
You don't mention which AR15 you have, specifically the barrel twist rate. IIRC, 22LR twists run 1-16 or 1-12. My AR is 1-9, and that's (borderline) too fast for most 22LR ammo.
So I contemplated a dedicated upper for accuracy sake. Then I realized a dedicated upper is just a new rifle waiting for a lower.
You have a 22LR in an AR platform. If you are satisfied with its performance as a .22, I'd say don't sell it. I don't think your AR15 with a conversion kit will be as accurate as your 15/22. And a new upper significantly erodes the savings of selling your 15/22.

Re: Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
I have the cmmg kit for my ar and I love it. It's quick and simple to switch from 223 to 22 and back... If I already had an ar 22 I'd probably just keep it, I got the kit because I was wanted to shoot my ar for cheaper.

I have CMMG conversion. Flawless.....so far.
A Republic, if you can keep it.

Re: Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
I have the CMMG stainless one. I've had minor issues, but nothing that I can really complain about. I've used it in both my rifle and and my pistol without problems. I don't see it has having a problem stabilizing the bullets, and I've shot it accurately out to 100 yards.

Re: Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
I have a Spikes 22 conversion, but rarely use it these days. The price of 22 uppers is fairly decent and I have since bought a couple of CMMG 22 uppers. They are less problematic than the conversions I've found. So maybe just getting a separate 22 upper is another idea for you.

Re: Looking for ar-15 22lr conversion kit
Thanks for all your help guys. My ar is a mega arms monolific upper and billet lower. I am not sure on the twist rate of the barrel. I have not recieved the rifle yet. just bought it the day I posted this thread. I was wanting the conversion kit because I am traveling to Idaho the end of the month and I am trying to avoid taking two rifles and two shotguns along with the four pistols I want to bring.

I dig your 15-22 but the wife would be unhappy with me dropping the money on it. Good luck with your new AR
