Experiences With .45 ACP Federal Hydra Shok 165 gr.

Has anybody had any experience with Federal Hydra Shok 165 gr. .45 ACP Whats your opinion on this round for personal protection.

i cant speak for the .45 i have 124gr in 9mm, and they always seem to load fine and shoot fine

You'll be OK with anything .45acp for SD. Just geta few boxes and run them through gun of choice and make sure they are 100% in reliability and accuracy department. I actually prefer Speer Gold Dots now. 230gr old standby weight. The hydro Shock design is getting a bit long in the tooth for some. Just my $.02

"updated HS" is a bit vague, the only thing you could be refering to that I know of would be the HST round. Again a great performer, and very much available to the public. While some companies may say their ammo is for "LEO only" that is compaby policy and not law, and so those "LEO" loads can be found although usually not as easily.

Hydrashock's are outdated, and fail to perform pretty consistantly.

From your flurry of posts in old threads and such since just now signing up I think you are the one looking for an argumnet.
This behavior is usually a good indicator of a troll, I hope i am wrong.

I agree with Shawn on this one. Not that my opinion matters too much. I have up until today been carrying the 165gr hydra shoks in my Kimber Ultra Carry 2. I was in a store today and got some 230gr hydra shoks that say on them Tactical Law Enforcement Only.

That marking on the packaging prompted a few conversations with local gun shops and they tend to agree that there is no law preventing sale to anyone of that ammunition. I even asked one about the famed Black Talon ammo and they said that when they order it Winchester has a screen on the computer that says law enforcement only but they still ship the ammo to them and they can sell it to anyone. Black Talon is now called Ranger SXT and from what I read it is not the same as it used to be.

In reality any bullet placed accurately can be deadly. While a dead bad person is just that dead, the amount of time that it takes for him to attain that state could be the difference in a good or innocent person living or dying as well.

Having shot the 165gr I can tell you that the only concern I have with it is the 165gr hydra shok advertises low recoil which may sound good to some it makes me worry just the same about the possibility of ejection jams even though I have not had any issues with them up till now I still worry about it.

God willing I will never need to use my gun. However, if I do I pray I have practiced and trained enough to do so as safely and efficiently as possible.
