    Default Colt Re-finishing

Anyone know what Colt charges to re-blue a 1903 or 1908? I've emailed asking, just waiting on response. Both guns are in good shape as far as the metal, no pitting, etc., just some finish loss. I'm debating even doing it, may keep them original, but considering.

Contact their customer support via telephone. Price depends on the grade of blueing. Being your colt has a smooth and free of pitting or rusting surface, the technition will not have to spend time and labor fullfilling the job keeping the cost from increasing. If you do decide to get the firearm refinished, be sure to keep the paperwork regarding the work.. I would venture to say that a factory job will enhance the value more than getting the firearms refinished at the corner gunsmith. If unsure regarding compromising the value, contact an avid collector in the know.

As an added service, Colt will probably go over the condition of the gun with a discriminating eye as not to return a faulty operating firearm, for no other reason but the quirky and dangerous world of civil liability.

Thanks for the info.. I"ve had work done by Mahovsky's and he does excellent work, but for my Colts, I thought I might be better off having Colt do it. I'm really torn about having them re-done? I may have the 1908 redone first - the slide has zero blue left - looks ss actually with all the blue gone! If it comes out nice, then maybe the 1903.

You might check with Doug Turnbull Restorations as well. Not cheap, likely better than Colt.
