s&w shield .40
This thread was originally asking about a kel Tec pf9 I was going to pick up. Just wanted to let you guys know I picked up a s&w shield .40 cal for $435. Any other shield owners out there? How to you like it? Any problems?

Re: kel tec pf9?
I have 1. No issues, but they can be hit or miss. They are user sensitive and some people limp wrist them. If there is a problem kel-tec will fix it.
290$ is pretty high for it. I have seen them for closer to 270$ and used for 200$.
I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

Re: kel tec pf9?
If you shoot the right ammo they are usually OK. (Kel-Tec says non-brass cases are a no-no.) Keep in mind that they are not "range guns", so don't expect to put thousands of rounds through them.
If you have problems, Kel-Tec customer service is pretty good about getting them resolved. I wanted to replace a couple of parts in mine to "freshen it up" and called to order them - Kel-Tec sent them at no charge.
The most common issues are usually extraction/ejection related. The screw which holds the spring sometimes backs out and eases the spring tension, which can cause failures to extract. Blue Loc-tite on the screw will keep it tight. If that doesn't do it, a new extractor, spring and screw is the fix.
(Don't dry fire without a snap-cap, as doing so can cause damage.)
What finish for $290? (Hard chromed is worth the extra bucks, IMHO.)

Re: kel tec pf9?
Lots of talk about kel tecs - personally, it's the only gun I would never buy - just too many negatives. $290 seems high as mentioned - drop a couple more bucks and get a quality gun. I have nothing against lower price guns, I own many, just not kel-tec. I'm sure you will get many comments, usually negative far outweigh positive

Hickok45 on the PF-9:

His main issues:
- a couple of accidental mag releases (his may have had the older mag catch)
- inability to dry-fire without a snap-cap

Re: kel tec pf9?
Incidentally, I just had my PF-9 in the classifieds a couple of days ago and it went pretty quickly. If I didn't need to raise some cash for the holidays, I would have kept it.
I agree with the others though - $290 is a bit high for a blued PF-9. (If it's hard-chromed, that's not bad as they are a bit harder to find.)

True - but I've found on here you get a better spread. Example would be the RIA 1911 - one member put up that it was garbage - his opinion and perfectly fine comment, but every comment back was "no way - quality piece at great price".
I'll go with PAFOA members are just a bit better than your average Joe - lol.
